Desperate Housewives is one of America’s most famous and beloved comedy-drama series of the 2000s. The cast was absolutely perfect, the dialogues, drama and cliff hangers made the show to be special & kept it alive for eight seasons. Even though it ended in 2012 there are still many people who rewatch the show and miss the characters.

10 No Thank You!
The famous actress Felicity Huffman was a perfect match for the role of Lynette Scavo and she shared the same opinion. When the time came to cast an actress for the part, Huffman wanted the part but she did not want to audition for it, instead, she wanted the producer Marc Cherry to hand it to her.
In the end, she actually auditioned and the producers were so amazed that they offered her the part immediately. It would have saved everyone some time if they would just listen to her.
9 Lynette and Tom Scavo
It is true that the series had so much drama to a point where it was very difficult to follow who was involved in what and let’s not forget that there was a certain mystery to how the events and details were unraveling. One more thing was the issues and problems each household had, some were unfaithful the others were simply unhappy. This is the reason why the producers decided that there will be one family that will have some sort of stability.
Even though in the original script Tom Scavo was supposed to cheat on his wife already in season one they changed the direction of their marriage and it turned out to be a beautiful story.
8 Idea Turned to Reality
The creator of the show Marc Cherry firstly had an idea for a show that will be a half-hour comedy and for the content to be much lighter than it actually turned out to be. As the development of the show continued, it was decided that the show will be an hour-long and its content will lean more to drama and serious dialogues than comic puns.
The idea turned out to be brilliant as the show was one of the most successful shows ever made.
7 The Set
One of the most beautiful neighborhoods ever shown on tv is Wisteria Lane street. With its white picket fences, green lawns and perfect houses it is truly the American dream. The set was actually built in 1946 and it has been used for number of shows such as Leave it to Beaver and The Munsters.
Another interesting fact is that the show was also used for the famous music video Dilemma by Kelly Rowland and Nelly.
6 A Hit from the Start
The producers of the show were never in doubt whether the show will have a second season since the series was an absolute hit from season one. Only the pilot had 21.3 million viewers which set a record. The show was loved by many from episode one and when the time came for Season 1 finale they broke another record and this was officially the most-watched episode that the show produced with 30 million only on its first airing.
The numbers did not lie and the show became such a success that they produced eight seasons in total.
5 First to the Party!
Eva Longoria was the very first actress to be signed to play the role of Gabrielle Solis. Her role was very interesting since she was presented as a trophy wife who was suffering from a lack of attention from her husband. Her character was written to be mean and not favored but Longoria created something that was the best of both worlds.
Despite the cheating and shallow character, she later developed into a strong character with a lot of values.
4 Original Title
Everyone knows the show by the name Desperate Housewives and it may sound odd if there was any other title to the show but the name was not actually the first choice. The producers were brainstorming and titles such as The Secret Lives of Housewives and The Secrets of Wisteria Lane were seriously considered.
In the end, they decided to finally go with the title Desperate Housewives which seems like the best fit but that is only because everyone is familiar with the name.
3 Housewives Who Made History
It doesn’t happen very often for a series with an all-female cast to live this big of a success. The series Desperate Housewives had eight seasons, 180 episodes and every episode has a duration of one hour. This made the show hold a record with the fact that it had that many seasons, one-hour length and an all-female cast.
As the show was continuing the seasons the ratings were going higher and higher but so were the salaries and earnings.
2 Death On The Show
It can be surprising how many people were written off and killed in the series. To be exact there were 52 characters who either died, some kind of accident happened to them or they were killed.
Among these were some of the main characters which made the show even more unpredictable to watch. We are all still devastated by the death of Edie Britt.
1 Bree Van de Kamp
The character that Marcia Cross portrayed in the show was inspired by a real person, the mother of the producer Marc Cherry. She was a very strong woman who has incredible cooking skills and was a pure perfectionist.
Another interesting fact about the actress is that while the cast was filming Season 3, Cross was pregnant and with that, they had to be very creative with the angles they shot.
