10 Best Red Power Rangers Ranked By Their Ability To Lead

Every team of Power Rangers needs a leader. Since the beginning of the franchise, the role has always gone to the Red Ranger. This Ranger would be a voice of reason in tough situations or instill fearlessness in the team when faced with danger, but not all leaders are perfect.

Since 1993, die-hard fans have seen an evolution in Red Rangers and some became more memorable than others. Who could forget the first-ever American Red Ranger, Jason Lee Scott? It’s safe to say that the Rangers after him had a lot to live up to. Here are some Rangers that did an excellent job taking on the responsibility of wearing the color red.

10 Mack Hartford (Operation Overdrive)

While he wasn’t originally meant to become the Red Ranger, Mack proved his worth. In his team’s first battle, he was quick with strategy and combat helping defeat their first foe. Along the way, his leadership helped the team prevail.

He did have a moment of uncertainty after learning his true identity, but Mack still went above and beyond for his team and showcased it in the finale. He fearlessly takes on Flurious, risking himself for his team.

9 Tyler Navarro (Dino Charge)

Tyler showed a lot of promise as a leader in Dino Charge. His drive also came from his backstory of losing his father and doing everything necessary to find him. His devotion also seeped into his role as a leader and he did everything possible for his teammates. What also made Tyler notable was that he wasn’t stoic or rough around the edges.

It’s hard to follow a leader who can’t see both sides or empathize beyond logic. Tyler has a good heart and can joke around but can quickly turn serious when the situation demands it. He helps his fellow Rangers out when Jason from Mighty Morphin appears in a crossover episode.

8 Lauren Shiba (Super Samurai)

Fans can agree that Lauren’s role as the first female Red Ranger in the American franchise deserves praise on its own. She was the sister of Jayden who passed on his powers. Sadly her role as the Red Ranger didn’t get as much storyline development as fans would have hoped.

She still managed to wow audiences with her leadership and she was clearly better suited for the role than her brother. Having been in hiding, she mastered her martial arts and combat skills. Lauren is a badass lead character that deserves the honor the Red Ranger status holds.

7 Wes Collins (Time Force)

Wes Collins was a dreamboat in Time Force. In the beginning, he was more of a spoiled brat but he had a considerable story arc that fans loved. He finally found where he belonged and realized that his new teammates needed him when he became the Red Ranger.

While he still could act selfish, he took on the challenge, held his head high, and helped defeat Ransik and his monsters. Wes refused to ever give up when he knew his friends needed saving. Not to mention, Wes took it on the chin when they had to return to the future.

6 Carter Grayson (Lightspeed Rescue)

10 Best Red Power Rangers Ranked By Their Ability To Lead

Carter was the perfect fit for the Red Ranger role from the start. He already exhibited great leadership skills and heroism before being recruited by Lightspeed. Carter was a firefighter who always saved the day. Not to mention, he was the first to accept the Rescue Morpher because he believed in the cause.

Throughout his run, Carter never stopped being good. He had just the right amount of leadership and responsibility that the team needed. Above all, Carter knew of his flaws and accepted when he wasn’t right. For example, when he realizes why Captain Mitchell had him put out the fire first, before saving civilians. The fire could have led to an even bigger explosion. It takes a strong leader to accept mistakes.

5 Leo Corbett (Lost Galaxy)

Lost Galaxy had many great moments and firsts in the Power Rangers saga. Many fans noted the immense character growth in Leo Corbett, the Red Ranger. At first, he is rash, impulsive, and a bit childish. He even snuck aboard Terra Venture in hopes of being part of the New World, but without permission.

While Leo carried some guilt that his brother should have been the Red Ranger, it truly was his destiny all along. Leo also proved to be good of heart when he tells Magna Defender he still has some good in him. He was also self-sacrificing on more than one occasion like fighting Trakeena to save the others and Terra Venture.

4 Andros (In Space)

Andros was a Red Ranger without a team at the beginning of his series. Before accepting the Turbo Rangers, Andros already showed his impressive skills to fight evil. He covertly tried to gather information about Dark Specter while escaping the clutches of Rita and other villains.

Andros proved to also be a good leader when he realized he needed help and allowed T.J. and the others to join him on his journey. Throughout the show, he also sees that Astronema isn’t as evil as she claims. When she turns out to be his long-lost sister, he does everything possible to save her. Andros also helped lead the Rangers to defeat the Psycho Rangers and was the one to save Earth in the finale. As a leader, he sacrificed a pivotal character in the franchise.

3 Tommy Oliver (Zeo)

10 Best Red Power Rangers Ranked By Their Ability To Lead

Tommy is easily the G.O.A.T. when it comes to the American franchise. He has had the most story changes amongst the original cast. While he may have been the best, was he the best leader? Tommy became the Red Ranger after retrieving his Zeo Crystal, then later became the Red Turbo Ranger.

Even as the Green and White Ranger, Tommy showcased impressive leadership skills, always offering words of wisdom to help the Rangers see clearly. As Red Ranger, he still exhibited these skills. Tommy also proved to not be self-righteous in his role, when he realized that he needed to step down and give his powers to T.J. as well as enlist the help of Jason as the Gold Ranger.

2 T.J. Johnson (Turbo)

Much like Carter, T.J. was already a good-hearted character meant for his future role as a Ranger even before he first morphed. Before becoming a Ranger, he took initiative and fought against Piranhatrons to save Tommy.

T.J. also went above and beyond to prove Bulk and Skull’s innocence when they were accused of stealing packages, showing his goodness. When the Command Center was attacked, he led the Rangers to follow Divatox to stop her fearlessly. Importantly, he was also the first character of color in the role.

1 Jason Lee Scott (Mighty Morphin)

Jason isn’t number one simply because he was the first Red Ranger in the American franchise. He became a leader for a reason and had certain qualities to prove it. When the Rangers are first introduced to Zordon and then leave the Command Center, he’s the one to persuade the others to use their morphers.

He proved to understand his role and didn’t dictate but stood alongside the Rangers in their fight against evil. In the coveted Green Ranger episodes, Jason gives up his power coin to Tommy so he can once again become a Ranger. As a leader, Jason was also humble, taking on responsibility and/or guilt for when things went wrong.
