Considered by some to be one of the best games on the Nintendo DS, Sonic Rush is a 2.5D side-scrolling platformer released in 2005 that introduced the reoccurring character, Blaze the Cat, to the franchise. In the game, players control either Sonic the Hedgehog or Blaze the Cat as they battle both Doctor Eggman and Eggman Nega to stop them from collecting all the Chaos Emeralds and Sol Emeralds.

As the last game produced by the father of Sonic, Yuji Naka, before he left Sega, the game is known for combining both the iconic 2D platforming sections of early Sonic games with the dynamic 3D boss battles of later titles. During most of these challenging bosses, the track “Metal Scratchin'” combines the feelings of both of these eras by mixing upbeat techno with rock melodies.

Wild Pokémon” theme in this game is one of the best in the entire franchise because it manages to perfectly balance energizing beats with a melody that doesn’t become exhausting.

Released in 2014, Dragon Age: Inquisition is an award-winning action RPG that is one of BioWare’s most successful games ever made. Set after the events of Dragon Age II, the player controls a customizable protagonist that leads a group known as the Inquisition in order to seal the Breach, which is a green portal in the sky that allows demons to enter the world.

Towards the beginning of the game, the protagonist and their allies suffer a devastating loss against the main antagonist, and they all sing a solemn song, “The Dawn Will Come,” which is also the theme song of the game. During the entire game, there are multiple different battle themes that correspond to different sections of the narrative. While all of these battle themes are beautifully composed and full of energy, the track “Chasing Daybreak (Thunder)” is the most memorable because it is the song used during the first few chapters after the impactful time skip.

1 Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest – Bloody Tears

One of the most iconic tracks from the entirety of the best-selling gothic-horror action game series Castlevania is “Bloody Tears.” Over the years, this song has been remixed and remade for many different games in the franchise. The track has even been used in the Netflix animated adaptation Castlevania.

But, none of these new iterations can come close to overshadowing the magic of the original version from the 1987 NES game Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest. The particular 8-bit melodies of the original create a perfect arrangement that fans still love to this day.
