10 Star Wars Characters Who Were Minor In The Films (But Important In The Clone Wars)

Whether or not you think its quality matches the quality of the main franchise’s films, The Clone Wars has become a staple of the expanded universe of Star Wars and has a total running time that far surpasses the films when added up. Set between Episode II and Episode III, it explores a time period known as the titular ‘Clone Wars’, and gives us a lot more info on a variety of characters we didn’t see a lot of in the films.

We’ve collected ten characters who become a central part of The Clone Wars but don’t have much involvement in the actual films.

10 Plo Koon

In the Star Wars, Plo Koon is shown as a Jedi Master who takes a prominent seat on the council. He is a Kel Dor (a brown-ish insect type thing with a creepy mask on; he doesn’t look like a good guy at all) and was killed in his ship during Order 66, without speaking a word.

In The Clone Wars (the first few episodes in particular), he plays a major part in the introduction of Ahsoka and took part in many important battles. His death scene is a huge downgrade on his importance in the series.

9 Ki Adi Mundi

One of the fan-favorite characters from the prequels is Ki Adi Mundi. He doesn’t exactly do a lot aside from providing us with two incredibly meme-able lines: “What about the droid attack on the Wookies…” and “He is a political idealist, not a murderer…”.

His death actually does have the intensity and emotion it deserves, but in comparison to his frequent appearance in The Clone Wars, it still doesn’t quite do him justice.

8 Captain Rex

Despite being one of the central characters in The Clone Wars, surviving Order 66, and (rumor has it) being present on Endor in Return Of The Jedi, we actually don’t see Captain Rex on screen at all in the prequel films.

This doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, given the fact that he is the most prominent Clone Trooper and is the only one who has changed his appearance to make himself distinguishable.

7 Darth Maul

Every fan of Star Wars knows that Darth Maul was one of the greatest wastes in the history of characters. He appeared in The Phantom Menace for about five minutes, and for reference, the pod race lasts nearly twenty…

It was a brilliant move to resurrect Darth Maul for The Clone Wars, as he is fuelled by his hatred of Obi-Wan, and give him some metal spider legs to continue his evil mission. He even gets a cameo at the end of Solo, which most fans loved.

6 Ahsoka Tano

The last mention of Ahsoka Tano in the prequel films is probably the biggest plot hole in all of Star Wars.

The fact that Anakin had an apprentice who took up the majority of his time between the second and third films but she doesn’t appear on screen or get a mention at any point simply makes no sense, especially considering she is effectively the main character in The Clone Wars.

5 Kit Fisto

He might look cool, but Kit Fisto doesn’t have a whole lot to do in the prequel trilogy. We get to see him in full fight mode in Attack Of The Clones (against the 3PO-droid hybrid), but he is very easily overpowered by Palpatine when they attempt to fight him off.

In The Clone Wars, he is given a lot of screen time, often going on missions led by himself, making him a vital part of the fight against the rising Empire, even if the films don’t prove it.

4 Bail Organa

Bail Organa is an incredibly important part of Star Wars history, as he is technically the adoptive father of Princess Leia.

He does have a relatively big role in the prequel films (and appears in Rogue One), but The Clone Wars allows his character to be fleshed out as he works alongside Padme and Mon Mothma.

3 Asajj Ventress

Asajj Ventress is another character where it doesn’t really seem to add up that we don’t see her in the flesh in the prequels. She is taken on as Count Dooku’s apprentice before Palpatine forced Dooku to betray her, which she survived, and was eventually led down a path of redemption.

She ended up becoming a figure that the Jedi Council honored, but she isn’t even mentioned in the films.

2 Jocasta Nu

Once upon a time, Jocasta Nu was on the Jedi Council. By the time we meet her in the prequel films, she is effectively a librarian. She doesn’t do a lot more than help Jedi find books before she is killed by Vader.

The Clone Wars allowed for her character to be explored with a little more depth than in the films, as she was able to do a little more than guide Jedi to books.

1 Shaak Ti

We only see Shaak Ti very briefly in the prequel films, and she is one of the many Jedi who doesn’t speak a single word and was ultimately killed at the hand of Darth Vader.

In The Clone Wars, her responsibility increased hugely and she became surrounded by a conspiracy regarding chips placed within Clone Troopers.
