Fans of Survivor on Reddit have more than a few pet peeves, from hating some of Jeff’s catchphrases to various aspects of the fandom.

Survivor is an enduring and popular reality show, but like any reality show, aspects of it are bound to get on some viewers’ nerves. As a reality show that’s been on the air for 20 years and over 40 seasons, that’s more than expected.
Within that time, Survivor has given viewers some excellent and unforgettable sequences, but it has also produced more than its fair share of bad episodes and bad storylines and even been the source of a few fan pet peeves. The great thing about opinions is that everyone has one, and these Reddit users have personal bones to pick with some aspects of Survivor.
10 Jury Voting
The hard thing about Survivor is that the winner is entirely predicated on jury opinion. If someone played an impeccable strategic game but continuously annoyed the jury, then too bad. This has given rise to the concept of “bitter juries” and runner-ups who “deserved” to win, and this annoys Reddit user, lemmylime.
Their personal pet peeve is “when people debate over whether the jury ‘voted wrong.’ Um, the voting is entirely subjective, it’s literally impossible for them to vote wrong. That’s the entire point. (But apparently, Michele has convinced Probst otherwise).”
9 “A 1 In X Shot.”
Jeff Probst is generally agreed to be a great host, but some of his mannerisms and quotes get on fans’ nerves.
This includes Reddit user cathode-ray-tube, who writes, “Every time Probst says that the winner of the Immunity Challenge will be guaranteed a ‘1 in X shot of winning this game,’ as though after the next vote, the game will be decided by dice roll.” Zjzr_08 agrees, writing, “I guess it could be said with the rock draw but yeah, it doesn’t make sense haha.”
8 The Outcasts Twist
Pearl Islands is often regarded as one of the best seasons of Survivor. But is that because, or in spite of, the famous Outcasts twist? Opinion remains firmly divided, and it tends to annoy Reddit user jacare37.
They write: “When people say they like Pearl Islands except for the Outcast Twist. The Outcast Twist is Pearl Islands. Without it, Shawn flips, Drake gets pagong’d, and Ryno or Savage wins. The season sucks. To me saying this is like saying you like football except the parts where they run the ball.” There’s no denying that the twist is an integral part of the season’s identity.
7 Endorsing A Winner
Final tribal council makes or breaks winners, as is evident in some of the worst final tribal council performances of all time. One major aspect of the FTC is the speeches from jury members. But is this a flawed system?
Reddit user JtiaRiceQueen has a personal pet peeve, and it’s when “someone gives a speech endorsing a winner at FTC.” They go on to explain a bit more, writing, “It should be banned, it’s f**king annoying. Use that time for questions only.”
6 “Ragging On” Quitters
A lot of people don’t like when contestants quit Survivor. Some think it makes for boring TV, as it eliminates an exciting tribal council from taking place. Others take it more personally, as they feel like it’s a missed opportunity for the player and an opportunity that many people would like to have. But ragging on quitters gets on the nerves of one Redditor.
They write: “I strongly dislike when people rag on quitters. I understand people may feel that it’s a spot for someone who actually could play until completion. However, the game isn’t cut out for everyone and you can’t possibly know that until you’re actually out there playing. There’s no harm in saying, ‘I can’t do this.’ Because not everyone can.”
5 Swearing On Lives
Some Survivor players are more superstitious than others. For example, when one player swears on a loved one and then reneges on their promise, the betrayed player gets highly offended and takes the move extremely personally.
It’s a pet peeve of one now-deleted Reddit user, who writes, “The whole swearing on another person’s life thing and how seriously some players take it. Like do you think Tony’s wife is now going to die because he broke a promise made on her life? One that she wasn’t even aware of? The whole concept is just so mindbogglingly stupid.”
4 Recognizing Danni Boatwright
Guatemala is an underrated season of Survivor, and it contains a great winner in Danni Boatwright. However, many people believe that Danni was an undeserving winner, and it gets on the nerves of Reddit user Boxcar-Mike. Their pet peeve is “people that don’t recognize that Danni is a great player.”
They go on to explain, “She really is. Way down at the merge and came back to win it. Never stopped fighting.” And that’s the entire spirit of Survivor — it’s all in the title.
3 Praising The New Winner
There’s a certain level of excitement after every season of Survivor, but does every single winner need to be immortalized in the annals of Survivor history? Not according to Reddit user, rileymarks1.
Their pet peeve is how people make such a big deal, post-season, about “the new winners and the half-dozen dissertations that get posted here trying to justify why the newest winner should be considered one of the best. Hate it on Big Brother too, like, just because someone wins doesn’t mean they played some mind-blowing awesome strategic game.”
2 Seemingly Informed Fans
The fandom of Survivor can get quite vocal and opinionated, especially when it comes to the quality of a player’s game. This is a pet peeve of PrettySneaky71, who writes:
“People who think they have a more informed opinion on the events of a season than the players who were there to witness/partake in them. For example, it can be crowed from the rooftops by all the dirty thirties that Rodney’s game got a better reception post-airing than when actually playing and that everyone in game was trying to drag him to the end as a goat because he wouldn’t have won. Yet some fans still insist without Mike’s immunity run Rodney walks off with a million dollars.”
1 Meta Survivor
Survivor has been on so long that some contestants are superfans. These superfan contestants not only know how to play the game, but they’re basically a walking Survivor Wiki with their knowledge of its history.
This gets on the nerves of Reddit user tulibudibudouchu, who writes, “I REALLY hate meta-comments, or when contestants reference previous seasons/contestants.” Spandxlightning agrees, stating, “Yeah, I agree with you there. It really takes me out of the moment.”
