10 Things About Disney’s Tangled That Make No Sense

Disney’s Tangled is already a modern classic. As beloved as the film is (rightfully so), it does have more than a few plot holes.

It’s hard to believe that one of Disney’s best animated movies, Tangled, was released 10 years ago. The film has a lot of heart and real moments throughout to keep kids and families entertained the whole way through – but for adults, you can easily catch things about the movie that just don’t sound right. This can go for all movies in general but for some reason, Disney films have a way of twisting the story up so much that some parts just really could have been done better or just don’t make any sense at all . For an 18-year-old girl that is forced to stay inside of a tower and often told about the dangers of the outside world, but notices that her so-called mother is able to leave for days on end, is one point that is really confusing.

Finding the other crazy plot points can be difficult if you aren’t really paying attention. Here we have listed 10 things that make absolutely no sense about one of the greatest Disney films Tangled!

10 How Did The King & Queen Not Hear Mother Gothel Breaking In?

All parents should understand that when you have a new baby, you usually have to deal with sleepless nights and are able to wake up as soon as you hear your little one crying. Kings and queens should be no different right? Or they should at least have a couple of guards watching out for intruders, but not in this case. Mother Gothel is able to somehow sneak into their bedroom and sing to their child without waking either one of them. Did she put a spell on everyone or is she just that sneaky?

9 “Healing Power” = No Aging?

It is mentioned at the beginning of the movie that Mother Gothel used the magical healing flower to keep herself young for many years, but just how does that work? Throughout the movie we see Rapunzel heal Flynn after he gets hurt, she is able to get them out of drowning underneath rocks, and she is able to keep Mother Gothel young by just singing to her. Honestly, nothing about this makes sense because there is really nothing to heal about being old, is there?

8 How Did Rapunzel’s Hair Not Grow Once It Turned Brown?

When Mother Gothel sneaks into the kingdom and attempts to cut baby Rapunzel’s hair, the piece automatically turns brown and loses its power. But near the middle of the movie, as Rapunzel is telling Flynn about her hair’s magical powers, she shows him that same strand and it hasn’t grown an inch since she was a baby. It doesn’t make much sense.

She is 18 and her hair should have had plenty of time to grow out to maybe be as long as the rest of her blonde hair is. Does that mean that when Flynn cut off all of her hair at the end of the movie that it will just stay that same length the rest of her life?

7 Rapunzel Didn’t Wear Any Shoes Throughout The Entire Movie

One of the most bizarre things that can easily be noticed in the film is that Rapunzel doesn’t own one pair of shoes. It could make sense that she would often walk around barefoot inside of her tower, but she should at least have some socks to keep her feet warm around the tower, especially during those cold winter months. Even Mother Gothel wears shoes in the movie, so why wouldn’t she buy Rapunzel some?

6 How Did Mother Gothel Never See Pascal In The Tower?

Pascal is Rapunzel’s little chameleon sidekick that follows her throughout the entire movie and we see him give her all of the company she needs at the beginning. He helps her with her chores, helps her bake, paints with her, and even tried to talk her into going outside to play – but of course, Rapunzel turns him down. To be fair, chameleons are not very large animals, but how did Mother Gothel never notice him hiding around the tower?

5 The Fact That Mother Gothel Didn’t Lie About Rapunzel’s Birthday

Mother Gothel deciding to tell Rapunzel about her actual birthday could have been used as a massive clue to her real identity. Maybe she thought that since Rapunzel would never go outside, she never had a chance of running into another human being that would tell her the truth about her life and that she shared the same birthday as the missing princess.

As Rapunzel got older, surely she had thoughts of sneaking out or got cabin fever and was just very tired of staring at the same walls and doing the exact same thing every day, so why wouldn’t she have done what every teenager does and sneak out?

4 When Did Rapunzel Learn How To Swim?

Rapunzel and Flynn run away from the Ugly Ducking restaurant. As they are being chased, they get trapped inside of a cave with the water rising, just after she realizes that she could use her magical hair to help rescue them, she automatically knows how to swim and can even bust through rocks to get out. But how? When would she have had the chance to get swimming lessons, especially when Mother Gothel always left her home alone without any supervision?

3 Rapunzel Not Realizing That The Baby Picture Was Of Her

When Rapunzel, Flynn, and Maximus are in the kingdom wandering around, she notices the massive painting of the King and Queen with a baby girl who strangely looks exactly like her and that should have given her a bit of suspicion. But when the little boy tells his mom, “This is for the lost princess,” the truth should have clicked. The lost princess who shares the same birthday and looks identical to you – it would be a little hard to not figure it out!

2 How Unrealistically Short Rapunzel’s Massive Braid Was

Rapunzel’s hair has to be around 70 feet or longer, and the fact that it doesn’t really bother her until she gets to the kingdom and people start stepping on it is a bit bothering. But, one thing that is even more annoying is the fact that we are supposed to believe that those little girls were able to get all of her hair put up in that crazy braid and it did not end up being a lot longer.

There is no physically possible way for her hair to be as long as it is and to be able to look that short when it is put up in that massive braid!

1 Flynn Didn’t Get Recognized At All While At The Kingdom

Throughout the entire movie, we see all of the “wanted” signs for Flynn Rider and often see all of the kingdom’s guards searching for him. But when Flynn goes to the kingdom with Rapunzel to see the floating lights, he doesn’t get spotted even once! Are the kingdom’s guards just not worried about finding him at that point or did they see him and just not care? Either way, there is no way that no one saw him dancing or on the boat with Rapunzel!
