But then there are movies with no affiliation to the gaming world at all that somehow have video games. There are comedies and animated films that have no business being in the gaming world but have games that were popular with the movie’s fans. 10 Beetlejuice

In 1988, Tim Burton released the iconic, comedic nightmare fuel that is Beetlejuice. The movie focused on a couple who dies tragically and come back to haunt their former home. They learn how to adapt to the afterlife and meet the new owners of their home. Things take a twist when the new owners try to scare their souls from the house, bringing an odd spirit named Beetlejuice to the home.

The hauntingly funny movie has a cult following, which then transformed the movie into a video game. Beetlejuice was made for Nintendo gaming systems and Game Boy. In the game, the player is Beetlejuice himself as he runs havoc around town.

Austin Powers is the incredible franchise starring Mike Meyers as both the hero (Austin Powers) and the antagonist (Dr. Evil). Austin is a spy who takes on different quests in each film. Austin is the the ultimate womanizer, with lovers around the globe, and the number one sleuth — basically, he’s the living embodiment of the dated spy archetype. It’s a hilarious spoof on James Bond and other serious spy movies that, for some, arguably killed the genre.

After the success of the franchise, Game Boy created two games for fans: Austin Powers: Welcome to My Underground Lair! and Austin Powers: Oh Behave! The gamer is Austin Powers as he tries to hack Dr. Evil’s computer for various information.

With an all-star cast, Mean Girls spiraled into a broadway play, a sequel, and even a game.

The game can be found on Google Play and the Android store where players choose their favorite character. It’s the player’s mission to take on the Plastics and take over North Shore High School. As one can imagine, it’s filled with classic Mean Girls lines and situations.

In the film, Rapunzel was taken from her kingdom at birth and raised in a tower by a wicked woman who used her for her powerful hair. Rapunzel was lied to for her whole life until she found out who she truly was. The endearing movie was a hit with fans, so why no continue the story in a game?

Tangled: The Video Game released in 2010 by Planet Moon Studios and Disney Interactive Studios for Wii, Microsoft, and Nintendo DS. The game can be played with two players (Rapunzel and Flynn Rider) or a single-player as they fight off the bad guys and get to the kingdom. Of the movies featured here, Tangled at least makes the most sense when it comes to having a video game adaptation.

As if sharks weren’t scary enough, the movie focused on one specific shark that was attacking the beaches of Amity Island. In 1985, Atlus released the game Jaws for Nintendo. In 2006, another game, Jaws Unleashed, released for PlayStation2, Xbox, and Microsoft Windows, and five years later Jaws: Ultimate Predator came out for Nintendo 3DS.

Off-air, fans saw Tim and his wife Jill raise their three boys.

The game Home Improvement: Power Tool Pursuit! released in 1994 for Super Nintendo. The players act as Tim as he runs through various TV studios looking for his lost tools. The character runs into roadblocks along the way, causing Tim to fight them off and come back to his stage with the found tools. It should be noted that some of these roadblocks are, for some reason, dinosaurs.

4 Beethoven

Beethoven was the family-friendly movie that revolved around a Saint Bernard named Beethoven and his family. The ’92 film was so beloved that various spinoffs came from the original. Fans couldn’t get enough of this family pet and the mischief he found himself in!

In 1993, Beethoven: The Ultimate Canine Caper cake to Super Nintendo, Game Boy, and DOS. In the game, Beethoven is brokenhearted when he finds out his puppies are missing. It’s up to the player to find all the puppies’ favorite spots around town to bring them home safely.

3 Little Nicky

Oddly enough, Backbone Entertainment thought the movie would be a perfect video game and released it on Game Boy. The 19-level game mimics the movie as Nicky goes on various missions to restore good and bad on Earth.

2 The Office

The award-winning NBC sitcom, The Office, was a fantastic TV show that’s still just as popular in 2020 as it was in 2009. The show was so good that MumboJumbo decided to turn it into a game for Microsoft Windows.

The game released in 2007 and mimics the game in terms of missions and pranks. Here, players got to play as their favorite character and complete various pranks and jobs around the Scranton branch.

1 White Men Can’t Jump

The 1992 comedy White Men Can’t Jump starred Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes. In the movie, Harrelson’s character proves that he’s one white man who has a serious vertical and teams up with Snipes’s character for an opportunity to make cash off it.

In 1995, a video game of the same name released for the Atari Jaguar. The basketball-themed game has players playing against each other on different courts to take home the win.
