5 Pulp Fiction Characters Who Would Make Great Roommates (& 5 Who Would Be The Worst)

Pulp Fiction is about a whole underworld of crime, as every despicable character is connected to each other through six degrees of separation. And that’s why it’d be tremendously difficult to find a decent roommate in the world, as there isn’t a single character who isn’t up to no good in some shape or form.

If they aren’t murdering hitmen, they hold up diners, and if they don’t hold up diners, they are heroin dealers. However, though people may have to dig deep, there are some surprisingly wholesome qualities to many of the characters, and they have traits that would make them great roommates.

Great: Mia

Mia is Uma Thurman’s best Tarantino role, but as a roommate, on almost every account, Mia would be a complete liability. Whoever her roommate is, they’d end up looking after her more than anything.

However, it’d all be worth it, as she’s by far the most fun out of any Pulp Fiction character. When she and Vincent go on a date, it was her who was excited about Jack Rabbit Slims, and it was even her who convinced Vincent to dance. She’s got loads of energy, she has integrity for the most part, and she has great taste in music too.

Worst: Lance

Lance seems like a nice enough guy, besides being a heroin dealer, that is. He’s extremely friendly, so he could be great to hang around with on a lazy Sunday. However, there are hints of Lance being aggressive towards his girlfriend and roommate, Jody, and he seems to have a short temper.

On top of that, given that Lance has adrenaline shots lying around, it might not have been the first time that one of his customers arrived with somebody overdosing when Vincent brought Mia into the house. If that’s a regular occurrence, it’ll mean some long nights for his roommates. And the environment simply isn’t a comfortable place to live, as it’s filled with A-class drugs, it’s dirty, and the only food in sight is cereal.

Great: Jules

Just like all the other characters of the movie, Jules still kills people for a profession. However, he all but redeemed himself by the end of the movie, as he retired from his hitman career. On top of that, as he believed that it was an act of God that stopped him from getting murdered, Jules is one of the most open-minded to spirituality in the movie, too.

Jules and Vincent have great chemistry, and it’s part of the reason why Pulp Fiction still holds up today, but it was Jules who did all the heavy lifting in that friendship. Jules always does his best to make conversation, even with people he’s about to murder. And any uncleanly roommate of his wouldn’t have to worry, as, even though it was Vincent who made the mess of the car in “The Bonnie Situation,” it was still Jules who did most of the cleaning.

Worst: Pumpkin And Honey Bunny

5 Pulp Fiction Characters Who Would Make Great Roommates (& 5 Who Would Be The Worst)

Pumpkin and Honey Bunny come as a package, as there’s no separating them, but that just means double trouble. There isn’t one good characteristic or quality between them. Besides the public displays of affection, which would make any roommate feel uncomfortable, Pumpkin is highly manipulative too.

There’s no knowing what the untrustworthy couple could get up to in the apartment, especially being such thieves, and there’s no chance they’d contribute to the weekly shop. What’s worse is that Pumpkin can talk for days, but not in a conversational way like Jules. Instead, Pumpkin seems like the conspiracy theorist-type who won’t let his roommate go to bed.

Great: Marsellus

5 Pulp Fiction Characters Who Would Make Great Roommates (& 5 Who Would Be The Worst)

There’s no doubt about it, Marsellus is a bad guy, but as essentially every Pulp Fiction character is a disgraced murderer, the mob boss is the lesser of the many evils. Despite being a murderer, there are actually elements about Marsellus that should be revered, as he does take care of the people he loves and he rewards loyalty too.

On top of that, given that he’s sitting on a fortune from fixing boxing matches and God knows what other illegal activity, the roommate could at least have a very lavish lifestyle. And, in fairness, when he isn’t being gagged and kept in a basement, he’s pretty easy going.

Worst: The Wolf

The Wolf is another character who seems like a potentially great roommate. The character is still in tuxedos in the early hours of the morning, and he drives fast sports cars. And while his roommate may have access to those cars and may be invited to fun parties, it comes at a price.

The Wolf is suave in a way that no other character is, but there’s a dark side to him that audiences haven’t seen given that he works for Marsellus. He’s also very demanding, has no manners whatsoever, and to say he’s a “cleaner,” as he does none of the cleaning himself, and that most likely crosses over to his living habits too.

Great: Butch

5 Pulp Fiction Characters Who Would Make Great Roommates (& 5 Who Would Be The Worst)

On the face of it, Butch could be the worst roommate ever, as he’s a little intense at times, has anger issues, and he even bullied his girlfriend/roommate in the movie. However, any roomie of his will at least be safe, because what gives a roommate more peace of mind than living with a boxer?

Butch managed to outlast hitmen, and he even managed to wipe the slate clean with Marsellus, one of the most feared gangsters there is. On his bad side, there’s nobody to be more scared of than Butch, but on his good side, nobody will have a roommate’s back more than him.

Worst: Vincent

5 Pulp Fiction Characters Who Would Make Great Roommates (& 5 Who Would Be The Worst)

Vincent seems like fun, as he knows how to dance and is full of interesting tidbits, such as the whole metric system conversation. However, it was actually Mia who forced him to dance, and the whole reason he knows about the metric system in the first place is because he was in Amsterdam on a massive drug bender.

That drug use didn’t slow down when he was back on US soil, so whoever his roommate is would have to deal with a heroin addiction. And as Vincent is the worst movie hitman, he’s more of a liability than any other character.

Great: Jimmie

5 Pulp Fiction Characters Who Would Make Great Roommates (& 5 Who Would Be The Worst)

It may be boring, but Jimmie is just an everyday normal guy who doesn’t appreciate hitmen turning up to his house with dead bodies. The character has a nice house, he has good coffee, he’s easygoing, and the very worst thing about him is his dress sense.

Jimmie might not end up being a roommate’s best friend, but he isn’t argumentative, there won’t be any issues, the place will always be kept clean, and he’d give them their own space. At the end of the day, that’s all anybody wants in a roomie, unless they’re completely psychotic and would prefer to live with hitmen and mob wives.

Worst: Zed

Though Pulp Fiction is full of dark characters, Zed is technically the main antagonist of the movie, and in fairness, he’s far worse than any of the hitmen, boxers, or petty thieves in the film. Not only is Zed a murderer, as it’s mentioned that he killed one of his previous victims, but he’s a sexual predator too.

The sequence in the pawnshop is a scene fans still think about today, as it’s vulgar, shocking, unbelievable, and there is no way it’d convince anybody to live with him.
