The multiverse is well and truly alive from the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home that will feature the collision of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and separate universes that contained variants of Spider-Man. The Sam Raimi trilogy starring Tobey Maguire remains popular as ever and Doc Ock will be showing up in the MCU.
That hasn’t stopped speculation and leaks from basically confirming that more characters will be appearing from this trilogy, and it would be a shame if things that were left ambiguous aren’t explained in No Way Home. These range from the status of Sam Raimi universe to closer questions about Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker.
7 Did Mary Jane & Peter Parker Get Back Together?
The romance between Mary Jane and Peter has only ever been accurate from Spider-Man comics in the Sam Raimi trilogy, while the other two Spider-Men have had different love interests. The last shot of Tobey Maguire’s Peter with Mary Jane was them sharing a dance, but it was clear they were still not reconciled.
With such a long gap since that moment, there had to have been an endgame to the “Will they?/Won’t they?” dynamic between the pair. Should Maguire’s Peter show up, there would definitely be confirmation of where he is in his personal life, so a confirmation of what became of him and MJ needs to be relayed.
6 Is It Possible To Restart Octavius’ Fusion Reactor?
Since Otto Octavius’ return is guaranteed, fans need to remember that a vital point in Spider-Man: No Way Home is Octavius’ prime motive. After all, he wanted to perfect the fusion reactor that he was convinced would create unlimited, sustainable energy, and ended up dying when he realized it couldn’t be done.
It wouldn’t make any sense if Otto shows up in the MCU with no explanation of his backstory with the fusion reactor, and there has to be at least one line that confirms if it’s still possible to accomplish. With the MCU’s technology being much more advanced, Otto should logically be considering the chance that he could see his dream come alive.
5 Was The Symbiote A Venom Variant?
While the symbiote’s inclusion in the story was met with mixed reception, it is considered faithful to the ‘90s Spider-Man animated series that made Venom popular with mainstream media. With Venom: Let There Be Carnage officially integrating its version of the symbiote with the MCU, the Sam Raimi symbiote’s origins have become intriguing.
No Way Home is likely to acknowledge Venom, which can be explained through the multiverse angle. To this end, the symbiote in Spider-Man 3 can be clarified as a legit variant that went into another universe of if it was always native to that reality.
4 How Did Peter Deal With Harry’s Death?
Should Maguire’s Peter appear, he would be a changed man because of the lack of constant support. Tom Holland’s Peter has had Ned as his best friend and the impact has been apparent; Maguire’s Peter needs to address how he got over Harry’s death – if he ever did.
Moreover, it would make sense for Harry to come up in conversation considering Green Goblin will be appearing in No Way Home. It would also be a real eye-opener for Holland’s Peter to realize just how important it was for him to have Ned’s presence.
3 Did Any Part Of Norman Osborn’s True Personality Remain?
Willem Dafoe’s performance as Green Goblin is arguably the most iconic villainous presence in the Spider-Man trilogy, and his arc involved slowly losing his mind. With the Goblin back in No Way Home – and almost certainly played by Dafoe – there will be confusion amongst viewers if Norman Osborn still exists.
His final moments before death turned out to be the Goblin’s deception, as he tried to convince Peter that he was still Norman. Fans generally debate if Norman could have retained some of his personality, so it’s up to the MCU movie to lay this question to rest once and for all.
2 Were There Any Other Superheroes In This Universe?
The entire perception of every Marvel universe has come into question ever since the multiverse has opened up. With the Sam Raimi universe the first to feature a live-action movie Spider-Man, most fans wonder if it was a much larger place than was let on.
Mainly, there are questions whether Spider-Man had any other superheroes that he came across, other than the New Goblin by the end of the third movie. If he’s to appear in the MCU, there would be a point to address if he’s been the only one protecting the world back home or if other superheroes have stepped up.
1 Did Peter Give Up Being Spider-Man?
There’s little doubt that this is the question that will be in the minds of Spider-Man fans should Peter appear in the MCU. While he was implied to continue as Spider-Man after the defeat of Venom, he has to be around his 40s by this point and it stands to reason that he may have given up the superhero identity.
If Peter never gave up his role as Spider-Man, then there are still queries, such as what his career as the superhero has been like after two decades, and why he decided against having a normal life. In any case, the point of the question is for the movie to confirm if what impact Spider-Man left in Sam Raimi’s universe.
