Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure is one of the most popular action series in anime today and the nature of the threats our heroes face leaves little to no time for romance, but that hasn’t stopped people from pairing up characters anyway.

There are plenty of characters throughout the long running series that fans can pair up, and just about every (reasonable) combination of ships have been thought of at one point or another, but some make a lot more sense than others. Let’s take a look at some. Here’s 5 relationships from Jojo’s the fans are behind, and 5 they rejected.

Diamond is Unbreakable is a chapter from JoJo that embraces a very slice of life aesthetic, which allows for some particularly playful episodic installments to take place. Some strong supporting characters come into play, one of which is Yukako Yamagishi, someone who sets her sights on Koichi, much to his chagrin.

Yukako has a powerful hair-based Stand and her aggressive personality often seems like it’s too much for Koichi, but the duo also oddly make sense. Koichi and Yukako feel like one of the few relationships that would naturally occur in JoJo and it would consistently lead to comic relief.

14 Rejected: Diavolo & DIO Are Two Alphas Who Would Never Concede To The Other

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure never struggles when it comes to the task of creating new and formidable enemies and two of the most powerful antagonists in the franchise are without a doubt DIO and Golden Wind’s Diavolo.

There’s a lot in common between these two in terms of how they command their subordinates and are obsessed with supremacy, but it’s for this very reason that the two would clash and never be able to reach middle ground. Diavolo’s transformative condition into Doppio would also be too much of a liability that DIO would absolutely exploit.

13 Behind: Rohan Kishibe & Joseph Joestar Are Both The Right Kind Of Cocky

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure has developed a strange fascination with Rohan Kishibe, a supporting character out of Diamond is Unbreakable who has gone on to receive his own OVA series that’s also been adapted into live-action. Rohan Kishibe is a skilled manga artist, but he’s also incredibly cocky.

This confidence tends to work out in his favor and it gives him an almost invincible feeling. It’s exactly the same energy that fills a young Joseph Joestar in everything that he does. It’s easy to see these two bringing out the best in one another.

12 Rejected: Reimi Sugimoto Will Forever Hold Yoshikage Kira Responsible For His Sins

Yoshikage Kira from Diamond is Unbreakable is one of the most vile individuals to turn up in JoJo. The franchise is full of murderers, but Kira is a sadistic serial killer who’s also able to craft a meticulous strategy to keep him safe from persecution and defeat.

Kira’s defeat ultimately occurs in Ghost Girl’s Alley where he’s pulled into a purgatory by Reimi Sugimoto. This realm of darkness is filled with hands, which seems like it would be a dream come true for Kira, but Reimi is so bent on vengeance that she’ll never soften or give him a break.

11 Behind: Bruno Bucciarati & Leone Abbacchio Have Built A Mutual Respect For Each Other

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind brings forward an incredible group of Stand users through Bruno Bucciarati’s noble band of gangsters. Giorno’s indoctrination into this group is paramount, but Bruno largely runs the show and has a special connection with each member in the group. Leone Abbacchio is a character who doesn’t get nearly as much development as other Golden Wind characters, but he has one of the oldest ties to Bruno. There’s clear history between them and something deeper would have only added to Abbacchio’s thin character.

10 Rejected: There’s Too Many Natural Obstacles In The Way Of Jotaro & Josuke

This pairing is just wrong any way you look at it. Jotaro was the protagonist of Stardust Crusaders but he also featured heavily in Diamond is Unbreakable, the part where Josuke is the protagonist, and for some reason, this pairing is surprisingly common.

There are just so many reasons why pairing Jotaro and Josuke should never happen. First off, there’s the issue with the age difference. During the events of Diamond is Unbreakable, Jotaro is 28 years old while Josuke is only 16. But the biggest problem with this pairing is the fact that it’s pairing up a nephew with his uncle, a line nobody should be crossing.

9 Behind: DIO & Pucci Leave A Lot To The Fandom’s Imagination

Here’s a pairing that happened almost as soon as Enrico Pucci was introduced in the pages of Stone Ocean. Pucci is fanatically obsessed with DIO and his vague plan to “achieve heaven”, and fans were quick to imagine that there was something more going on between these two villains.

Pucci is one of the very few people DIO actually respects and can call a friend. So much so, that DIO came to trust Pucci completely, even giving one of his finger bones to Pucci to remember him by in case he died. Plus, the scene with DIO and Pucci in the same bed did nothing to stop the shippers.

8 Rejected: Jotaro & Kakyoin Are Travel Partners And Allies, But Nothing More

Jotaro and Kakyoin is actually one of the most popular pairing in JoJo’s, but it’s also split the fandom for or against this pairing, and at the end of the day, we’re going to put this pairing on the “rejected” side.

Jotaro and Kakyoin together just doesn’t make enough sense to warrant being paired up. They may have traveled to Egypt in the same group, but they barely had any scenes together save for the first couple of episodes when Kakyoin was introduced.

7 Behind: Squalo & Tiziano Are Perfectly Compatible

Squalo and Tiziano, a pair of enemies from Golden Wind, are as close to being a couple you can get without explicitly stating it. From the moment they were introduced, people have been fans of their relationship, even if Araki hasn’t explicitly said they were a couple.

Tiziano, especially, is very touchy-feely and has a penchant for caressing Squalo’s chest. Plus, with the way Tiziano says “Squalo” with such yearning, of course fans were going to ship them. But these two fashion disasters are a ship that just about everyone is on board with.

6 Rejected: Anasui Is Too Sinister For Jolyne To Take Seriously

Stone Ocean’s Jolyne Cujoh and Narciso Anasui might seem like a good match at first glance when you’re reading the manga, since they’re both Stand users incarcerated in the same prison, but their relationship anything but good. There’s a fair amount of sinister nuances at play from Anasui.

Despite Jolyne showing no interest in him for most of the part, Anasui romantically obsessed with her and desperately wants to marry her. He’s even willing to kill whoever gets in the way of his imaginary happiness with Jolyne, like when he almost strangled Foo Fighters for disobeying him. And let’s not forget that Anasui landed in prison for murdering his last girlfriend. Need we say more?

5 Behind: Mista & Trish Prove That Severe Opposites Can Attract

It might not have seemed like it from most of their interactions throughout Golden Wind, but Mista and Trish would actually make a pretty good couple. Even though Trish was either indifferent or cold to Mista for most of the part, after the two switched bodies near the end of the part, it seemed like the experience brought them closer together as friends.

Mista and Trish are quite a popular ship and after finishing Golden Wind, it’s easy to see why. However, this pairing is controversial due to the fact that Trish is underage during Golden Wind, but fans like to imagine that they spent several years building their friendship before any romance was involved.

4 Rejected: Jonathan & Dio Are Better As Villains Than Lovers

Jonathan Joestar and Dio Brando started it all, as it was their battle that set us on the journey that is Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure. As much as Jonathan tried to treat Dio like a brother, Dio always viewed Jonathan as being beneath him. Though Dio eventually came to respect him, he hated Jonathan, so it just wouldn’t make sense to pair them up.

Dio did some truly horrible things to Jonathan during Phantom Blood. He killed Jonathan’s dog, poisoned his father, forced himself on Erina, and would go on to take Jonathan’s body as his own. Not exactly an ideal partner.

3 Behind: Giorno & Mista Bring The Heart To Bucciarati’s Gang

Come on, just look at that picture and say that Giorno and Mista weren’t meant to be. In all seriousness, though, there are a lot of fans that pair Giorno and Mista together, even though this pairing runs into the same problem as Mista with Trish since Giorno is only 15 while Mista is 18.

Giorno and Mista are kindred spirits, which is probably the main reason they get paired so often. They work really well together and both of them are the type to not leave their teammates behind, so it makes sense that they’re paired up. And let’s not forget that Narancia went to his grave thinking they were together.

2 Rejected: Giorno & Jolyne Come From Completely Different Circles

Because Jojo’s is so focused on the Joestar bloodline through the ages, it’s become inevitable that some people ship different members of the Joestar bloodline. We saw this Jotaro and Josuke before, and now there’s Giorno and Jolyne, the main Jojo from part 5 and part 6, respectively.

The relation between Giorno and Jolyne is much more convoluted than Jotaro and Josuke, but that doesn’t make it any better. It’s still just as gross to be shipping characters that are related to each other, even if Giorno and Jolyne are distantly related.

1 Behind: Joseph & Caesar Set The Standard For Hamon Heroes

Probably the most popular pairing in all of Jojo’s, we have Joseph Joestar and Caesar Zeppeli. Both are the grandsons of part 1’s respective Joestar and Zeppeli, so they already had a connection before they even met. Joseph and Caesar are a pairing that even the most ship-hating fan can begrudgingly agree is a good match.

In a tale as old as time, Joseph and Caesar basically hated each other when they first met, but after training together and taking on the Pillar Men together, they became the best of friends, and it didn’t take much for a lot of fans to imagine them going a step further.
