It’s a big deal for a 90 Day Fiancé couple to get people talking even before their season premieres, but Jovi Dufren and Yara Zaya are doing just that. The surprise trailer drop by TLC for their original hit show introduced Jovi and Yara to eager audiences, who lapped them up instantly. But while the preview showed them quarreling over Jovi’s drinking habits, it left out the story of how the charming couple met. As revealed by 90 Day Fiancé’s newest fan-favorite, Jovi, their story is super interesting!

The show that started it all returns this week, bringing along couples old – like Natalie and Mike, Rebecca and Zied, and Hazel and Tarik – and new – like Jovi, 29, and Yara, 25. The trailer for 90 Day Fiancé season 8 introduces Yara while she’s having a conversation with a friend, who asks her if Jovi is ready to settle down. She suggests the TLC star is always out and drunk, and the scene cuts to a fight between the couple. When Jovi receives Yara at the airport, their happy reunion is ruined after she sees he has been drinking at 8:50 in the morning. But the jovial Jovi seems to laugh it off, although Yara calls him an “alcoholic.” The Ukrainian influencer cries that she’s given up everything to come to America and adds that she “deserves somebody better.” But as Jovi’s mother wonders if her son is even ready for marriage, it’s the way the 90 Day Fiancé couple met that shows they’re in it for the long run. After all, it’s the couple who travels together that stays together.

In a preview shared by TLC, 90 Day Fiancé fans first get to see Jovi narrating the sweet tale of how his romance with Yara began. The New Orleans native recalls how, when he was a kid, he spent his summers on shrimp boats, which led him to work in the exciting field of underwater robotics. “I guess it’s being on boats that’s in my blood,” adds Jovi as he explains that he loves his job. But his favorite part of all about his work is the travel. “I’ve been to 25 countries just for work,” reveals Jovi before adding, “When I go to that country, I stay on the boat the whole time for 28 days. I work four weeks on, four weeks off, so with my time off, I would just pick a country to go to and spend my four weeks there.”

But exploring also seems to have made the 90 Day Fiancé star bored and lonely, which prompted him to download a travel app to meet people. One fine day, he met Kyiv resident Yara. Jovi gushes that the beautiful Yara “turns heads when she walks the streets” and shares how, after talking, he realized they had common interests. “We both like beaches, we both like to scuba dive, we both like to travel,” Jovi confesses, while sharing that during his next time off, he met his future wife for the first time in Budapest. “I had zero expectations going to meet her for the first time,” Jovi explains and reveals he just intended to have a two-day fling.

However, even though they had an awkward first meeting, Jovi and Yara hit it off after a few glasses of wine and even hooked up. “We had really good sex, and things got better from that point of course,” says 90 Day Fiancé’s Jovi, who unfortunately later also suffers a miserable miscarriage with Yara, a major turning point in their relationship. But will it be their cultural clashes or commitment phobia on Jovi’s part that create the most drama in this TLC twosome’s life? Either way, season eight promises to be the wildest 90 Day Fiancé adventure yet.
