ACNH 2.0 Villagers Roast Players For Being Away So Long

As part of Animal Crossing’s new 2.0 Update, villagers will express displeasure if a player’s home is dirty when they visit, even leaving immediately.

The 2.0 update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons launched early, and as players return to the game, many after long absences, they find themselves being insulted by their villagers for their time away. Animal Crossing has long been known for its more relaxed tone and gentle, welcoming atmosphere, but apparently even the game’s normally placid villagers have their limits.

Players were notified of the 2.0 update, the largest to date, only last month, and now that it’s out, it brings a whole host of new tweaks and features to the game. Adding series favorites Kapp’n and Brewster to the game’s NPC roster, as well as many new items, including fruits, vegetables, and a whole new cooking system, the 2.0 update is huge and offers many new opportunities for players to redecorate their islands. With the paid Happy Home DLC on the way as well, tasking players with crafting vacation homes that are unique to each villager’s specifications, there’s never been a better time to return to the game and check out everything new, including the over 9,000 new items dataminers have found.

But, for those who’ve spent some time away from their island, Twitter user Radical_Replays (via IGN) has revealed that villagers won’t be happy if the player’s home is in disrepair. In the tweet, villager Merry enters the player’s home, which has been infested with roaches while the player’s been away. Upon seeing the roaches, she immediately expresses her disgust, turns right back around, and leaves. This is new to the 2.0 update. Prior to this, players could visit their villagers’ houses whenever they liked, but now those visits may come by invitation of each individual villager, and the villagers will enter the player’s home. And clearly, some of them absolutely will not tolerate roaches. The 2.0 update promised to really change the game, and it looks like this applies to villager behavior as well.

The 2.0 update revitalizes Animal Crossing: New Horizons, adding new locations and thousands of new items and recipes, as well as quality-of-life additions like new ladders to supplement the limited inclines. With several new villagers and NPCs to find and interact with, the game’s last major content update is a hefty one. Happy Home DLC should provide further inspiration, even as it puts players to work trying to meet various villagers’ vacation home demands. Many are choosing to completely overhaul their islands after long absences, and getting just the right furniture for each part of one’s island should be easier than ever with all the new items available. That is, unless players have to contend with the Animal Crossing update removing furniture from their islands.

With these last two releases, Nintendo has said it will stop releasing major content updates to Animal Crossing: New Horizons, ending the game’s run of sizable new additions a year and a half after the game released to immediate popularity. Even if it’s been a while, and even if some players might be facing shame for their unclean house, there is plenty of cause for players to return to Animal Crossing: New Horizons once again.
