Creative Assembly, the team behind the 2014 hit, Alien: Isolation, has discussed the development of the game and the pressure with working with the franchise, and commented on the response from fans wanting a sequel to the popular horror game in a mini-documentary with NoClip.

While nothing new was hinted at regarding an Alien: Isolation sequel being in the works, the developer did comment on the discourse from fans who want a sequel, stating that the developers on the team do see the Reddit threads and comments on Twitter and are proud of the legacy the original game has had.

Creative Assembly discussed the development of the 2014 hit, detailing the story of the game’s start from pitch to release, including a brief stint where the game was played from a third-person perspective. While the behind-the-back camera did serve to showcase the setting of the game, Creative Assembly felt a first-person perspective would aid in the atmosphere, making the player feel cramped with very few places to run and hide.

Additionally, Creative Assembly discussed the initial concept video used to pitch the game which included many elements found in the launch release. Including hiding from the Alien, the pitch video focused on capturing the aesthetic of the original ’79 film, with the idea of making the Xenomorph itself being one of the scariest monsters in gaming as it cannot be killed and can only be outsmarted with items found in the world.

A unique hurdle Creative Assembly faced was the 2013 release of Aliens: Colonial Marines by Gearbox Software, a game surrounded by controversy due to the final game not meeting expectations set with trailers under the guise of gameplay. With the issue a hot topic at the time, Creative Assembly chose to focus on gameplay only videos with a few story segments sprinkled throughout. Meanwhile, modders have since fixed a major issue with the AI in Colonial Marines with a simple modification of the game’s code.

After beginning development in late 2008 Creative Assembly finally released Alien: Isolation in October of 2014 across platforms. While there are no announced plans for a sequel to Alien: Isolation, it’s worth noting that the Nintendo Switch version of the game was recently released in late 2019 while the developer was working on A Total War Saga: Troy, so if a new game is indeed in the works, it could be the developer’s next project.

The Alien franchise is currently dormant, with Disney purchasing Fox and now being the sole owner of the rights. While a new movie may be in the drawing board, director Ridley Scott has stated it may not be a follow up to the 2017 film, Alien Covenant, which was met with a poor critical response and didn’t perform well commercially.

Alien: Isolation is available on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
