Netflix’s soon-to-be-released Korean Thriller set in a zombie apocalypse, All of Us Are Dead, will feature an appearance from South Korean actress Lee Yoo-Mi, who played the tragic role of Ji-yeong in Squid Game.

The actress, 27, will play an unknown role in All of Us Are Dead, but is confirmed to appear in the series when it releases on January 28th, 2022. Lee Yoo-Mi has made her role official on her Instagram page.

All of Us Are Dead focuses on a group of high schoolers that are thrown into a zombie apocalypse after a science experiment gone wrong. It’s based on the webtoon Now at Our School, which was published on NAVER Webtoon in 2009. The trailer for the series promises thrill, horror, and plenty of gore. Of course, Lee Yoo-Mi is no stranger to playing roles that focus on dramatic life-or-death situations.

Lee Yoo-Mi’s role in Squid Game as Ji-yeong, or Player 240, was nothing short of heartbreak for viewers of the series. She first appears in the third round of the fictional squid games that pitted its players against each other for the promise of abundant wealth for one lucky winner. Working together with Seong Gi-hun and Cho Sang-woo’s team in a tug-a-war game, Ji-yeong successfully moved on in the competition. Ji-yeong became closest with Kang Sae-byeok, a North Korean native. Naturally, Ji-yeong picked Kang Sae-byeok as her partner in the fourth game of Marbles. Unbeknownst to the players, the game would pit the pairs against one another, with one declared the winner within 30 minutes.

The two make the decision to spend the majority of the game talking, and then end it with a quick round to decide the winner in the last few minutes. Ji-yeong and Kang Sae-byeok exchange stories of traumas they’ve faced outside of the game, as well as their reasons for being there in the first place. Deciding that Kang Sae-byeok has more to live for, Ji-yeong makes the decision to forfeit the game and allow Kang Sae-byeok to win in the last few minutes. Ji-yeong’s last words, perhaps the most recognizable quote in Squid Game, translate to English as “Thanks for playing with me,” and are uttered right before she is shot in the head.

Given Lee Yoo-Mi’s dramatic and heart-wrenching role in Squid Game, it’s entirely possible that she’ll be playing a similar character in All of Us Are Dead, which will feature plenty of death (as the title of the series suggests.) All of Us Are Dead’s first season is currently set to contain 8 episodes, and Netflix will be eyeing the show’s performance to determine if it will be renewed for a second season. With the multiple successes of Netflix’s Korean dramas as of late, combined with its source material being highly rated by fans, All of Us Are Dead has a high potential to make a positive impact on the streaming service.
