Amazon Prime Best New TV Shows & Movies This Week (September 27)

This week, Amazon Prime Video is adding a selection of new movies that include crime, romance, and comedy, as well as a huge slate of older movies and complete television series. While many studios are pushing their releases back to movie theaters for larger theatrical releases as places reopen around the COVID-19 pandemic, many audiences are still choosing to wait for streaming releases of new movies. This week, Amazon Prime subscribers have plenty of new content to enjoy from the comfort and safety of their own couches.

Last week, Amazon Prime added The Green Knight, a medieval fantasy movie based on the poem Sir Gawain and the Green Knight starring Dev Patel, to rent. They also made available the ballet drama Birds of Paradise, which is based on Bright Burning Stars, a novel by A.K. Small. The final season of Goliath premiered on September 24 with all episodes dropping to conclude the story of Billy Bob Thornton’s lawyer Billy McBride. Finally, the streaming service also added the 2013 Zack Snyder and David S. Goyer’s Superman movie Man of Steel for the first time.

Amazon Prime uses a monthly release schedule, meaning that their releases are regularly scattered throughout each week but with a heavier stock of new content at the beginning of the month. Releases include new movies coming to streaming for the first time, TV series, and older movies that might have been around a bit longer but are being added to Amazon Prime for the first time. Here’s everything that is coming to Amazon Prime during the week of September 27.

The first big movie to be added to Amazon Prime this week is The Kitchen. Written and directed by Andrea Berloff, this crime film is based on a limited run of comics by DC/Vertigo Comics from 2015. The movie follows the wives of three members of the O’Carroll crime family in Hell’s Kitchen in 1978. When their husbands are arrested in a sting operation by the FBI, the family barely provides enough for the wives to get by. In response, the women begin their own operations and take over the crime family for themselves. The Kitchen stars Melissa McCarthy (Gilmore Girls, Tammy) as Kathy Brennan, Tiffany Haddish (Like a Boss, Girls Trip) as Ruby O’Carroll, and Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale, The Invisible Man) as Claire Walsh. The Kitchen will be added to Amazon Prime on September 27.

Us stars Lupita Nyong’o (Black Panther, 12 Years a Slave) as Adelaide Wilson, Winston Duke (Spenser Confidential, Black Panther) as Gabriel Wilson, Elizabeth Moss (The Kitchen, Mad Men) as Kitty Tyler, and Tim Heidecker (Beef House, Ant-Man and the Wasp) as Josh Tyler.
