Sarah Paulson has been with the FX anthology series American Horror Story since the beginning, playing psychic Billie Dean Howard in the Murder House season. 10 Billie Dean Howard Predicts The Birth Of The Antichrist

In Murder House, Paulson’s psychic character consults with Constance Langdon, the woman who turns out to be the grandmother of the Antichrist. Langdon asks Howard what happens when a ghost impregnates a human after finding out her dead son Tate assaulted her neighbor Vivien Harmon.

Howard has bad news for Langdon, prophecying that the child birthed by Vivien will bring about the end of times. This is exactly what the child, Michael Langdon, does in Apocalypse.

9 Lana Winters Exposes Briarcliff

Lana Winters is an abused and imprisoned journalist who is held against her will at Briarcliff Manor – a sanitorium – after she’s found snooping in a restricted area. A main character in Asylum, Lana survives electro-shock therapy, whippings, narcotics cocktails, and the serial killer Bloody Face.

After Winters is finally released from Briarcliff, she brings Bloody Face to justice and publishes a book in 1968 detailing her experiences at the terrible institution. She returns to Briarcliff in 1971 to film a documentary that leads to the facility shuttering for good.

8 Cordelia Goode Loses Her Physical Sight

Cordelia Goode is a witch and headmistress at Miss Robichaux’s Academy in Coven. A stylish, respected and knowledgeable woman, Goode is attacked in a restaurant bathroom when a cloaked assailant throws acid in her face.

Goode loses her physical sight as a result of the incident, but she soon realizes her psychic abilities are enhanced by the loss. Able to see into the past by touching people, Goode also realizes her partner Hank Foxx isn’t who he claims to be.

7 Sally McKenna Becomes A Social Media Star

One of the antagonists in Hotel, Sally McKenna is a former drug dealer and heroin addict whose spirit has been stuck at the Hotel Cortez since she was murdered in 1994. Like other spirits in the hotel, Sally lacks purpose or meaning, causing her to taunt and torture guests.

Eventually, the hotel’s manager Iris, Sally’s murderer, gives the spirit an iPhone. Sally is able to find meaning and happiness by blogging and becoming a social media celebrity.

6 Bette Tattler Marries Dandy Mott

Paulson plays conjoined twins Bette and Dot Tattler in Freak Show. These naive sisters from Alabam are recruited by Elsa Mars to join her traveling circus, where they catch the attention of the psychopathic Dandy Mott.

After Mott goes on a killing spree at the Freak Show, he forces the Tattlers to come home with him. Bette Tattler, seemingly swept off her feet, agrees to marry him.

But it was a set-up all along. With the help of fellow Freak Show members Jimmy Darling and Desiree Dupree, the Tattlers poison and then shoot Dandy Mott.

4 Audrey Tindall Stumbles Upon Her Murdered Production Team

In Roanoke, Paulson plays Audrey Tindall, an English actor participating in a television reenactment of a reportedly real-life haunting at a home in North Carolina. While filming, a new nightmare emerges for the cast and crew as ghosts and evil spirits terrorize them.

Combining documentary-style camera work and classic American Horror Story histrionics, Roanoke both pokes fun at and contributes to the found footage trope. One of the most terrifying scenes in the season involves Aubrey stumbling upon the ravaged bodies of her production crew in the woods.

3 Ally Mayfair-Richards Runs For Senate

Cult sees Paulson playing a traumatized wife and mother whose fear of clowns is exploited by the local cult leader. Ally Mayfair-Richards is marauded by Kai Anderson and his followers, who don clown costumes and make her life a living hell.

As Anderson attempts to climb the political system, Mayfair-Richards overcomes her phobias and fights back. Mayfair-Richards gives Anderson a big middle finger when she runs for US Senate and wins.

2 Cordelia Goode Administers The Seven Wonders Test To Michael Langdon

Cordelia Goode comes face to face with Michael Langdon, the Antichrist, in Apocalypse. Langdon, whose special powers deem him a warlock, attends the Hawthorne School for Exceptional Young Men.

Goode, who becomes the Supreme witch, is asked by the Hawthorne School’s leaders to administer the test of the Seven Wonders to Langdon. Refusing at first, Goode eventually oversees the test, which Langdon passes – the test of the Seven Wonders causing him to eclipse her as the first male Supreme, which leads to the end of the world.

1 Wilhemina Venable Loses Her Battle Against Michael Langdon

Paulson also plays Wilhemina Venable in Apocalypse, the stern of Outpost 3, one of the few safe havens for end times survivors. When Michael Langdon, the new ruler of the post-apocalyptic world, arrives at the outpost, he automatically clashes with Venable.

Believing she can outmaneuver Langdon, Venable attempts to kill him. Instead, Langdon uses his powers to end Venable’s life.
