An Animal Crossing: New Horizons player and artist has put one of the new Animal Crossing villagers in the shoes of Dexter from the classic Cartoon Network animation, Dexter’s Laboratory with incredible fanart. The game’s recent November updates added a host of new characters to the game, as well as some returning faces from previous games in the series, with many of them quickly become firm favorites for fans.

Animal Crossing has a wide roster of villager characters that can live on players’ islands as residents, and while there were already hundreds of animals available in the game, the substantial 2.0 update introduced some new options. Some of the latest villagers are entirely new designs, such as the popular Animal Crossing deer Shino, while others are series staples who’ve made their New Horizons debut for the first time, such as dog-villager Frett. As is typical for the series, the characters each sport unique designs and outfits, especially Petri, the newest mouse villager.

Redditor catsming’s simple yet impressive Animal Crossing artwork reimagines the scientist-villager Petri as another iconic science buff, Dexter from Dexter’s Laboratory. Petri’s instantly recognizable red and blue ear design and large glasses perfectly translate to the design of the Cartoon Network hero, with the artwork even restyling Petri’s blonde hair in typical Dexter fashion. Both Dexter and Petri wear lab coats, making the crossover art a fantastic mash-up of the two characters.

Fans of Animal Crossing’s newest mouse villager have shared their appreciation of the art, with many calling for another addition: Dexter’s sister Dee Dee. Multiple commenters have noted that wolf-villager Audie could make for a fantastic substitute for Dexter’s sister, with both characters sporting yellow hair and blue eyes. Audie’s ears could easily mimic Dee Dee’s bunched hairstyle, and it’s possible the artist will continue their Cartoon Network transformations to include her in the future.

Animal Crossing’s latest villagers have been some of the most highly sought-after characters in the game, with players trying their hardest to find the new villagers through island hopping. Fans have the chance to encounter characters when travelling using Nook Miles Tickets, giving them the opportunity to invite them to move to their island. Those who’ve not yet met Petri, Shino, and more through island hopping have a chance to get their favorite villagers with the new Animal Crossing season five amiibo cards, but can also purchase them with in-game Bells and items through fan trading website, Nookazon.
