Animal Crossing How to Remodel Island Resident Homes

Animal Crossing: New Horizons recently released the Happy Home Paradise DLC that allows players to remodel the homes of their island’s residents. Players will need to unlock the ability by progressing their career as a vacation home designer. To start the Happy Home Paradise DLC, players will need to go to the airport and choose the option to go to work.

Remodeling resident homes gives players more control over the presentation and aesthetics of their main island. Players should still take into consideration the needs and wants of their residents when doing a home remodel, and there will be a base set of resident furniture to utilize. To unlock this feature, players will need to purchase the Happy Home Paradise DLC.

While working as a home designer in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, players will reach several milestones. Each advancement will award players more Poki per property design and unlock new customization options. As players move up in their career, they will be able to invite island residents, Amiibos, and VIPs to the resort and build them their dream vacation homes. Eventually, players will also unlock the ability to remodel resident homes on their own island.

There are various levels and milestones to reach while designing homes for resort vacationers. Players will unlock several abilities that they can use in their own home, and, eventually, their neighbors’ homes. For example, players will be able to use pillars, partition walls, and lighting effects. A total of 30 vacation homes and five facilities need to be completed to reach the end of the career path in the Happy Home Paradise DLC. The final design will be followed by a big music festival to commemorate the last milestone. After the celebration, players can start working on remodels for their main island.

After getting every advancement in the designer career, players can head to the Resident Services building. Tom Nook will immediately ask to speak to the player about island resident remodeling. The initial fee to start a remodel is 9,000 bells, but Tom Nook will promise a reward of Nook Miles to make up for the steep price. Once the fee is paid, players will be able to choose which resident’s home they want to remodel. There’s a short interaction with the resident, then players can change the home the same way they design vacation homes at the resort. The only difference is that players can’t change the size of the room when remodeling.

Tom Nook will act as the player’s point of communication to either finish renovations or work on the exterior. Customizations for the outside of the home are limited to the shape and color of the house. The ability to remodel island resident homes gives players more control to add variety or increase uniformity across their island. With the addition of remodeling and island ordinances in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, players can essentially dictate the lives of their neighbors. Island resident remodeling is one of the many new features included in the Happy Home Paradise DLC.
