While every Animal Crossing: New Horizons villagers has at least one redeeming characteristic, we wouldn’t take most of them camping with us.

Animal Crossing New Horizons 5 Villagers Wed Love To Go Camping With (& 5 We Definitely Wouldnt Invite)

The many villagers of the Animal Crossing franchise have their own personalities and quirks that make them unique as characters, even when their dialogue is repetitious and bland. These personalities bring the characters to life, even past their archetypes of jock or lazy.

When going camping, it helps to take along trusted friends or even just people you don’t mind being around and possibly trapped in a tent with. There are plenty of Animal Crossing villagers that would make great camping companions and a lot more that wouldn’t. While there is a standing invitation for Isabelle, Tom Nook, and Sable, they are not villagers and therefore will not be included in this list.

10 Wouldn’t Bring: Billy

This old man villager may seem like a fun camping partner, but, thinking critically, Billy just doesn’t make sense as a choice to go camping. While his personality is technically that of a jock, he is literally a frail old person, so getting him to do anything to help set up is useless.

Hearing him shout “dagnaabit” because he sat too close to the campfire would also take the fun out of the night. Not to mention, telling a story around the fire would have to be stopped as he needs things explained to him, like what default dancing is.

9 Would Bring: Gala

This pig villager is cute as a button and full of energy. Named for two types of foods, apples and pork pies, her character pays homage to the real world by using “snortie” as a catchphrase, similar to how real pigs snort.

Gala is a normal villager and would make for a fun camping companion. She wakes up at six in the morning daily, so going for an early hike is always an option with her. She’s also trying to learn the violin, so night time entertainment would be covered.

8 Wouldn’t Bring: Benedict

Benedict is one of the worst conversationalists due to his inability to stay on track and his conspiracy stories that he tends to lean on. Believing himself to have been abducted by aliens, he is a lazy chicken that only comes around when he wants something.

The worst part of camping with Benedict would be him getting lost constantly because he can’t remember where the campsite is. It is hard to get a nice rest when you hear a chicken villager crying “hoo” in the woods because he can’t find the only fire around for miles.

7 Would Bring: Kid Cat

Seemingly based on a Sentai series or Kamen Rider, Kid Cat is a superhero that is devoted to protecting his friends around the world. There is no one better to take on a camping trip than a superhero. He is also the leader of his team, which makes him a natural to lead any hiking trips in the woods.

Campfire stories would be fun, too, as he definitely has battle stories in his pocket that he hasn’t told yet. Protection and a fun time rolled all in one sound like a good companion.

6 Wouldn’t Bring: Mathilda

If any villager fits the mold of being a Karen, it has to be Mathilda. She is a snooty villager, so her personality, especially at the beginning of the friendship, leaves a lot to be desired. Since there is no manager in camping, she would probably spend the whole time complaining to whoever brought her.

It is bad when even she knows she is a terrible influence on her child, but that doesn’t stop her from spreading rumors about Tom Nook and his supposedly shady past.

5 Would Bring: Pietro

Some people would say that taking a clown-sheep camping would be a bad idea and seems like a setup for a bad horror movie, but that’s the most surface-level reaction to this sweet villager. Pietro’s main goal is to be loved, which is both beautiful and not necessary as a goal because he is loved.

He would be fun to take camping for several reasons, but mostly he likes to play games and have fun. Pietro would be a whiz at coming up with fun “would you rather” ideas, and he has to have some fun dares up his colorful sleeves.

4 Wouldn’t Bring: Raymond

As much as people have wanted him on their islands since his introduction in New Horizons, Raymond would be a nightmare of a camping companion. His smug personality makes him less bearable, but that isn’t even the worst part of going anywhere with him.

Because he is so adored by everyone, he would just bring his fans along to the campsite, causing an overcrowding situation. It is kind of hard for Zuker to roast a turnip when the fire is surrounded by people following Raymond.

3 Would Bring: Boomer

With a name and outfit believed to be derived from a pilot character from Battlestar Galactica, Boomer is a cool villager from aviation cap to webbed feet. He is a quirky villager, the oldest sibling of six, and uses the catchphrase “human,” which is ironic in the world of Animal Crossing with a limited number of humans.

Bringing Boomer along on a camping trip works out because he can help with any tasks necessary. The only downfall is that he is allergic to cherries, so be very careful.

2 Wouldn’t Bring: Vivian

Animal Crossing New Horizons 5 Villagers Wed Love To Go Camping With (& 5 We Definitely Wouldnt Invite)

While Vivian looks stylish, with an almost Elle Woods from Legally Blonde vibe, she lacks the charisma of many of her villager neighbors. The first to snark at any given situation, Vivian is as basic as they come, even decorating her home with the most basic themes.

She just isn’t adventurous enough to rationalize bringing on a camping trip. The only villager she’d get along with would be Mathilda above, but it would just be an unpleasant trip with the both of them.

1 Would Bring: Gayle

Even without getting into her sweet personality, Gayle is a perfect companion for a camping trip because her hobby is nature. She knows what plants are edible and what bugs will bite, if it comes to that.

Her personality is literally driven by making sure everyone is happy above anything else. Gayle should be invited camping, ice skating, boating, and whatever other group activities one can think of because she is just that likable of a villager. Camping wouldn’t be the same without Gayle.
