Animal Crossing Player Explains How To Upgrade Starting Villager Homes

Players of Animal Crossing: New Horizons have discovered a way to restore the original design of villager homes, something that fans have been hoping for since the game first released. Animal Crossing’s recently-released updates have introduced a host of new highly-requested features, many of which are still being discovered by players.

Animal Crossing is home to plenty of villager characters who can move to players’ islands as full-time residents. While villagers are usually acquired through mystery island-hopping or through campsite visitations, new players will find randomly-selected villagers on their island when starting the game for the first time. Unlike villagers found later, these starter characters have basic home interiors, and not the ones usually associated with them. This has been a problem for many Animal Crossing players who want the full experience from their animal friends, including their fully-decorated and personalized homes.

Redditor and AC player whatsmylifeanyway has shared a way for players to easily restore villager homes to their correct interior in what appears to be a newly-introduced feature. Sharing their discovery on Reddit, the user explains that going to Resident Services and complaining about a villager’s behavior to Isabelle offers a new home appearance option. Selecting this will easily change the way a starter villager’s home looks, reverting it to the default design associated with the character. Commenters on the thread have shared their elation over the feature, which means players will no longer have to renovate villagers’ homes. Unfortunately, it seems the feature is associated with the recently-released Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Happy Home Paradise paid DLC, and not the 2.0 update, which means not everyone will be able to make use of the quick renovations.

Prior to the new Animal Crossing feature, many players would go to extreme lengths to acquire the correct homes for their favorite villagers. In some instances, this would mean kicking the villager from their island, only to invite them back at a later date, which would see them return with their correct home decor. While Animal Crossing amiibo cards make it quick and easy to bring desired villagers to islands, the process isn’t as simple as the Resident Services way, involving not only paid cards, but also lots of crafting to convince characters to stay.

Animal Crossing’s Happy Home Paradise DLC and the base game’s 2.0 series of updates have helped to breathe new life into the game, with additional features offering deeper and more meaningful customization and design options than ever before. While many features of Happy Home are locked to the DLC, the base 2.0 update has offered new ways for players to decorate their home interiors without buying the DLC. Wall hangings, ceiling lights, wall shelves, and accent walls are just a few of the new Animal Crossing 2.0 features, with plenty more available with the paid DLC.
