The recently released Arenas mode for Apex Legends could be getting limited-time modes (LTMs), according to Respawn Entertainment’s Lead Game Designer, Carlos Pineda. The free-to-play battle royale’s newest mode was released earlier this month as part of the game’s ninth season, titled Legacy.

Arena mode is a permanent addition to the game, where two teams of three players attempt to eliminate each other in a series of rounds, with the first team to win 3 rounds declared victorious. Along with the Arena, Season 9 also brought with it a brand new hero, an aerial Recon Legend named Valkyrie. Valkyrie was first revealed to fans during a Stories from the Outlands cinematic titled “North Star,” which delved into the Legend’s origins and revealed that she is in fact the daughter of Viper, a secondary antagonist featured in Respawn’s 2016 first-person shooter, Titanfall 2.

In a recent AMA on the Apex Legends Reddit page, Lead Game Designer Carlos Pineda divulged the studio’s future goals with Apex, stating that the introduction of limited-time modes into Arenas was “definitely on the table.” He further added that despite LTMs being on the cards, the studio would have to “weigh that against other features,” as a lot of time must be invested in the LTMs development. Currently, however, Pineda revealed that the dev team is focused on implementing penalties for players who leave mid-match, and providing loss forgiveness, stating “we hate when people leave early.”

The AMA also provided some more insight into what Respawn has in the works for Apex, with devs stating that along with balance patches incoming for Arenas, more customs maps are also currently being worked on for the mode. Aside from that, the AMA indicated that fans can expect more multiplayer modes for Apex in the future. The studio also recently announced that Arenas will receive a ranked mode in the future, although it did not specify a release date as yet. Since the game’s Director Chad Grenier has previously stated that he refuses to force the Apex Legends dev team to undergo crunch, these updates will not come as quickly for the battle royale as players may expect.

Although Reddit interactions can be a minefield for game developers, it is nice to see that the Respawn developers continually take time to reach out to Apex Legends fans and answer their burning questions. The Arenas mode has certainly proved to be a popular addition to the battle royale, and the AMA has shown fans that the new mode is just the beginning of what Respawn has planned.
