Apex Legends Season 5 Character Tier List

Season 5 of Apex Legends is now live and several legend balance changes came alongside some major map changes to King’s Canyon this season. Some changes were drastic enough to shift some Legends down a few tiers, while others have seen some growth in the meta.

And of course there’s the new Legend, Loba, making her debut this season as well. Here is the updated tier list for all the current Legends in the game, and how they compare to their counterparts in the current competitive meta.

S Tier

Gibraltar – Despite receiving a slight nerf this season, Gibraltar still comes out on top of every other legend in the meta currently. This absolute beast of a man is a walking talk who can absorb shots, poke enemies indefinitely, and walk away unscathed. In Season 5, Gibraltar’s Dome Shield received a slight nerf, reducing its duration from 18 seconds to 12 seconds. This can be seen as a big hit. However, 12 seconds is still enough time to heal up or revive a teammate, which is exactly what the Dome Shield is for. In the end, Gibraltar is the one and only Legend in Apex Legends who can tank a Kraber headshot and walk away unscathed thanks to his arm shield. Until that changes, there’s a good chance Gibraltar will remain at the top of the charts.

A Tier

Revenant – About halfway through Season 4, Respawn decided to give Revenant a buff to bring him more in-line with other legends in the meta. However, this buff turned out to be extremely powerful, making Revenant into the killing machine that the lore makes him out to be. Having two charges of Silence is a huge change, and one that can easily turn the fight in his team’s favor.

His Death Totem is also significantly more useful since players return to the totem with 50 Health instead of 1 Heath, giving them enough of a fighting chance to make the Death Totem worth it if the fight goes south. Overall, Revenant has more than earned his spot as one of the top contenders in the Apex Games right now.

Bloodhound – Bloodhound used to be a pretty lackluster Legend in the first few seasons of the game, but recently Bloodhound has received several buffs that have pulled them all the way up to the top of the tier lists, especially after the Bloodhound-themed Old Ways event. Their Eyes of the Allfather ability allows them to scan a large chunk of the map, marking every enemy within range for a short time. This ability got yet another buff this season to give the “marked” effect a slightly longer duration, and the cooldown of this ability was reduced even further.

Beast of the Hunt also got a buff so that when Bloodhound knocks an enemy while the ability is active, the ability is extended – essentially turning Bloodhound into the perfect tracking/killing machine. Overall Bloodhound is in a great spot in the meta and a solid pick for team comp.

Caustic – Caustic was already a strong pick for King’s Canyon thanks to his ability to lock down enclosed areas, but in Season 5, Respawn gave Caustic a buff that many fans have been asking for. Previously, Caustic’s gas traps slowed down teammates who passed through the smoke, and while it didn’t damage them, it did cause a bit of trouble for teammates mid-fight. Respawn has now adjusted the smoke to no longer slow down teammates which sounds like a small change, but it actually was one of the only things holding Caustic back from climbing up the tier list.Caustic can now throw smoke freely with little repercussion from his teammates, which can prove absolutely devastating when the circle is small enough to be coated in smoke.

Mirage – In an absolutely surprising turn of events, Mirage went from one of the worst legends in the game all the way to the top of the charts thanks to a substantial rework of his abilities. Now, Mirage can control the decoy he throws out, causing it to mirror all of the movements that Mirage makes. This makes it significantly more useful in almost every situation as it will help create confusion for the other team(s).

Mirage also has an entirely new ultimate, Life of the Party, which summons several decoys that will all mirror Mirage’s movements, allowing him to either add a lot of chaos to the fight or to possibly make a stealthy getaway. Arguably the most useful change to Mirage comes in the form of his new passive “Now You See Me…” which turns Mirage invisible while he is either reviving a teammate (who is also cloaked during the process) or using a respawn beacon. This ability is a game-changer since it essentially makes Mirage a better Lifeline in terms of reviving teammates, so long as the other teams do not know where Mirage went.

B Tier

Apex Legends Season 5 Character Tier List

Lifeline – While Loba is technically a support character as well, Lifeline is Apex Legends’ only healer, making her still very valuable in the current meta. Her health drone allows the squad to sustain a fight for longer, and her revive shield allows her to pick teammates up mid-fight (or at the very least create a sense of urgency for the other team to push).

What holds Lifeline back is her passive Low Profile debuff, which makes her take more damage. Lifeline does not really need the Low Profile perk since she has no movement abilities to help her escape fights, and her hitbox isn’t that much smaller than some of the other Legends. Lifeline is a great pick for a team, but she definitely could be better.

Wattson – Wattson is a perfect pair alongside Caustic when it comes to locking down areas. If Caustic and Wattson work together to lock down a location like Bunker, it becomes a nightmare for any team trying to push through. Her Interceptor Pylon ultimate blocks incoming grenades and ordinances, making her location even more safe (while also charging nearby body shields). She’s a good pick for King’s Canyon thanks to the increased number of enclosed areas. Her only downside is the Low Profile debuff which is definitely unwarranted on Wattson since her hitbox is average size and she has no movement capabilities whatsoever.

Wraith – The quintessential TTV pick, Wraith has been the competitive face of Apex Legends since launch and remains that way even after several nerfs. What makes her such a great pick is that she can become immune to damage for a short time, allowing her to escape a bad situation or safely relocate. She also has a portal which is helpful for her team, and even with the Low Profile debuff, she’s a solid B-tier pick.

Crypto – Crypto has slowly been climbing the ranks and finding his spot in the meta thanks to recent buffs and the move to King’s Canyon. Crypto has to rely heavily on his drone, which takes him out of most team fights (or takes the drone out of the team fights depending on how the situation goes). But Crypto is great at starting an engagement, or clearing out Wattson and Caustic traps, thanks to his EMP ultimate ability. His drone can also let his team know how many teams are in the area, which is a huge perk. Overall, Crypto still needs some work, but he’s slowly becoming a key part of the game.

Loba – Loba is the latest Legend to join the game and she is a pretty solid pick. Her kit isn’t broken as such that would place her high in A or S tier, but her kit can be extremely useful for those who take the time to practice with her abilities. Her Ultimate has a lot of uses as well, whether that’s needing to pick up ammo, look for a certain hop-up, and more. Her ability to teleport is also handy but not overdone, although that may have come at a significant cost to Pathfinder.

C Tier

Pathfinder – How the mighty have fallen. Pathfinder was one of the most played characters in Apex Legends, but in Season 5, Respawn severely nerfed Pathfinder’s Grapple Hook ability. Previously, Pathfinder was able to grapple every 15 seconds, but that was increased to 35 seconds this season. This means that Pathfinder can no longer bounce in and out of combat freely all the time, which makes him more balanced in the current meta. He was the only character who was able to have that kind of movement, so Respawn dialed his Grapple back a bit. Pathfinder mains will have to be a bit more selective with their Grapple use from here on out.

Bangalore – Little can really be said about Bangalore. She’s just an average, middle-of-the-road pick to play as. Her smoke abilities are great for escaping a fight or causing confusion, but usually hinders her teammates in the process unless they have Digital Threats. Her Creeping Barrage covers a good area, but since it still shell-shocks teammates. Double-Time helps Bangalore navigate a battlefield quickly, but it really only benefits herself in a team-oriented game. Overall, she is the quintessential soldier class who really needs some work to really fit into the current meta.

D Tier

Octane – Rounding out the bottom of the list once again is Octane, who even after a Season 5 buff, still remains as the weakest pick for the game. His Season 5 buff allows him to toss a Jump Pad every 60 seconds, but he still just does not bring much to the team-oriented meta. The developer commentary in the Season 5 patch notes indicated that Octane is the next Legend that they are working on retooling (now that Mirage is finished), so hopefully he’ll receive some love between now and next season.

The current meta in Apex Legends has shifted a bit in Season 5, where some character rose up thanks to generous buffs while others fell several tiers due to nerfs. While Gibraltar still reigns supreme over the Apex Games, there are definitely more strong characters in the upper tiers now than there used to be. Hopefully the lower tier characters will get some much-needed buffs soon to make them strong enough to compete in the current meta.

Apex Legends is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
