Apple iPad 8 & iPad Air 4 Improvements Upgrades & Pricing Explained

Apple announced two new iPad tablets at its big event, the iPad Air 4 and the iPad 8. Both come with big performance improvements, but the iPad Air 4 arrives with the most changes overall. Here’s a closer look at what’s new with these latest iPad additions, as well as details on how much these exciting new tablets cost.

Apple is the most popular tablet manufacturer in the world. There was a time that the iPad was so popular that it could almost have become the standard word for a tablet, just as Hoover, a company brand name, became an alternate word for a vacuum cleaner. However, the tablet has taken on new life as a notebook computer replacement, with the addition of external keyboard covers and Apple followed suit. From the least expensive iPad to the highest priced iPad Pro, every new iPad is compatible with an external keyboard and Apple makes several itself. The iPad can also connect to a mouse now, but Apple prefers users to opt for its Pencil.

Both new Apple iPad models feature much faster processors. The brand new iPad Air 4, pushes past the iPad Pro models to be the first Apple device with the A14 processor. This is the same processor that will be used in the iPhone 12, likely coming before year’s end. Note this does not have the ‘Z’ at the end and the iPad Pro with A12Z will still be faster. The iPad 8 jumps two generations of CPU, from the A10 in the previous model to the A12. The iPad Air 4 display has grown again to 10.9 inches, while the iPad 8 display remains the same. Priced at $329, iPad 8 is the budget Apple tablet, while the iPad Air 4 arrives with a $599 price tag attached.

Other Changes To The iPad & iPad Air

The home button is still the Touch ID location on the new iPad, while on the iPad Air it has shifted to the sleep button. Apple’s latest iPad Air also makes the switch to USB-C, a feature that was once reserved for the Pro models. This means the same accessories used for a notebook can be used with the iPad Air 4, without the need for an adapter. USB-C also allows for faster data transfer as well.

The latest from Apple, advances its tablet line-up while holding the general order of importance. The iPad Air 4 saw big changes, but still fits well in the mid-range. The iPad 8 was a nice improvement in speed while not advancing so far as to require a rise in the price. This keeps a new, fast iPad within the reach of more consumers. Every new iPad is compatible with an Apple Pencil and an Apple Keyboard. For those ready to transition to a tablet as a computer, Apple is ready to help.
