Battlefield 2042 Hazard Zone Gameplay Isnt Very Fun

Battlefield 2042 has three main game types including Hazard Zone, which many players find disappointing. There are several flaws with Battlefield 2042, including a persistent data error which plagued users at launch, that will hopefully be fixed once the game fully releases on November 19th, 2021. Unfortunately, the issues with Hazard Zone revolve around Battlefield’s gameplay, and not bugs that can be resolved in a timely manner.

Hazard Zone is a team-based extraction mode where players need to find data drives and survive the round by boarding an aircraft and escaping. There are six or eight teams of four, depending on the platform, as well as AI opponents that continuously spawn in. Players need to earn credits by killing rivals or extracting data drives. Credits are used to purchase loadout weapons and gear to use for the next round in Battlefield 2042’s Hazard Zone, but they can easily be lost if teams are taken out before completing the extraction. There are also only two extraction aircrafts, so most teams won’t get the opportunity to escape.

Throughout Hazard Zone, players will need to find and mark data drives, coordinate with their teammates, collect the drives, then survive long enough to successfully extract them. The biggest issues come with the way players are rewarded for completing tasks, and the lack of communication currently in the game. Players also need to purchase their weapons for the next round at the start of each match, so going up against teams that have been playing longer makes it extremely difficult to progress. Compared to other game modes in Battlefield 2042, and in previous installments in the series, Hazard Zone isn’t very enjoyable.

Battlefield 2042: Hazard Zone New Players

Players need to earn dark market credits in order to purchase weapons, throwables, and tactical gear. There are a few free weapons to start with, but for players that are just joining, it can be difficult to get ahead. Teams that have been playing for a while will have severe advantages over players that are starting out, and it can be hard to earn credits. The only way to get better weapons is to kill opponents or extract data drives. Having this mechanic makes that game more tedious and frustrating than fun.

A lot of players may turn away from Hazard Zone because they are unable to get any better gear. The only potentially redeeming factor for this issue is the lower player count in Battlefield 2042’s Hazard Zone. Having either 24 or 32 players could help to alleviate some of the disadvantages new players face when starting out in Hazard Zone. The inclusion of AI enemies also helps new players earn credits, but they have to beat the other teams in taking them out first. Since killing AIs is easier than extracting data drives, it may be difficult for new players to get to them before more experienced and well-armed teams.

Battlefield 2042: Hazard Zone’s Gameplay & Rewards

Battlefield 2042 Hazard Zone Gameplay Isnt Very Fun

The main objective in Hazard Zone is to collect data drives and survive long enough for the extraction vehicle to spawn. The first aircraft doesn’t land until halfway through the match to give teams time to collect up to 12 data drives. Although this seems straightforward, there are major problems with gameplay execution in Battlefield 2042. Mainly, there is no substantial reward for actually playing the game correctly. Players can earn the same or more credits from killing other players or AIs.

Credits are not earned from a team simply picking up the data drives. They need to be extracted, otherwise, players will lose all the credits they earned from that round for picking them up. That means teams can go around and get the maximum number of 12 drives and still end up with no credits at the end of the match. There is basically no incentive to actually play the game the right way because it’s much easier to earn and keep credits without hunting for data drives.

Some teams in Battlefield 2042’s beta have even gone as far as to wait in the extraction vehicle and take out other players as they approach. Using other teams to collect data drives can seem like a smart strategy, but it won’t pay off when players start to realize there’s no point in obtaining them. If players don’t collect or extract data drives consistently, the objective of the game will quickly turn into a secondary, optional task. Hazard Zone will likely become a free-for-all game mode without any real reason to play the game correctly, and no in-game method for communicating with teammates.

Battlefield 2042 Has No Voice Chat

Another issue with Hazard Zone’s gameplay is the lack of in-game chat in the current version of Battlefield 2042. This issue presents different challenges for players depending on the platform they’re using, but not being able to communicate with teammates is a severe hindrance regardless. Without chat, teams will be disconnected and often separated, which makes Hazard Zone less of a team game and more of a scattered free-for-all with some random allies. This issue may be fixed after the launch of Battlefield 2042, but it’s currently a severe problem for Hazard Zone, unless players use an alternate method of communication outside of the game.

Due to the lack of communication, it can be hard to determine which players are teammates. There is also no visible distinction between opponents and AI enemies in Hazard Zone. Players may end up spending some time trying to take out other players while actually shooting at AIs or even their own teammates. While there is an icon that distinguishes teammates from enemies, it has been reportedly disappearing when there’s smoke in the area, so it can make keeping teammates alive much more difficult.

Battlefield 2042 has a few issues that are still being worked on before the game’s official launch. Some of the problems are bugs that need to be resolved, while other issues stem from the overall quality of gameplay. Unfortunately, players with early access are being disappointed by the flaws of the Hazard Zone game type. Players that are new to this mode may have a hard time getting better gear and weapons. There are also some issues with the credit system and the lack of rewards for winning a match. There will need to be some major updates to Hazard Zone in Battlefield 2042 to make it enjoyable for players.
