A cryptic tweet has led fans to believe that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 will be shown at the 2021 Game Awards. With the Game Awards coming up on December 9th, there continues to be speculation on what will be shown at the show. Geoff Keighley has teased a very large amount of titles that are set to appear in the show to some extent, though details on what those games might be are still up in the air.

The sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has only been showcased a few times so far. The first teaser trailer was shown in E3 2019; it was a very cryptic teaser, and it led to a lot of fan speculation about what it could mean. E3 2021’s Breath of the Wild 2 trailer then fully unveiled the gameplay and provided a 2022 release window, but the game still doesn’t have an official title; Nintendo is hesitant to share that info for fear of spoilers.

A tweet from Geoff Keighley has fans speculating that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 will be shown at the Game Awards. The tweet talks of a world premiere that has been worked on for 2.5 years. Fans were quick to point out that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 was first revealed around 2.5 years ago, and that Zelda has had a history being at the Game Awards, which is leading to fans like Twitter users Stealth and Tabulatelk15 being hopeful that more information will be revealed on the game.

Just saw the final cut of a #thegameawards world premiere we have been working on with a developer for 2.5 years. Truly honored we are entrusted to share this work with the world.

I really do want to believe he is referring to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2. 1) We know the game is pretty far along now, and Nintendo has been holding back information on the game including the subtitle. 2) Zelda has a Game Awards history.https://t.co/xOmZDKrhE7

I’m just gonna say it, BotW 2 was announced almost exactly 2.5 years ago.

The game awards have seen several different surprise announcements over the years, including some from Nintendo. The 2020 Game Awards saw the reveal of Sephiroth in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Nintendo has not appeared at all of the Game Awards shows though, so there’s no certainty that 2021 will continue the pattern from past shows. But it would be far from the first surprise announcement from Nintendo at the Game Awards if it did happen.

If The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 was shown at the 2021 Game Awards, the possibilities for what information will be revealed are wide. More gameplay elements, more specifics on what the story will entail, and a more specific release window are all things fans are likely hoping for, as well as Breath of the Wild 2’s mysterious name. But there is no guarantee that Geoff Keighley is specifically referring to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, as he could be talking about anything. Still, that isn’t stopping fans from hoping that the game will grace fans with its presence at the show, and it would certainly make for a very impactful Game Awards show if it did make an appearance. It’s likely that this alone will make many fans tune in to the 2021 Game Awards on December 9th in the hopes of seeing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2.
