Brooklyn NineNine The 7 Worst Things Amy & Gina Did To Each Other

Amy and Gina had an odd, tenuous relationship on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. In some ways, they were considered friends, even though Gina teased and taunted her during most of their interactions. If she wasn’t taking a dig at Amy’s pantsuits, she was making fun of her nerdy hobbies, like how much she loved to read when she was a child.

Although such moments were the most prevalent, there were times when Gina was helpful and moderately kind to Amy, such as the instance where she helped her with her presentation for the Shoulder Nova project. While Gina mostly “mean-girled” Amy, Amy never retaliated. She took Gina’s taunts and usually brushed them off as Gina being Gina because she was a kind, soft-spoken person. However, there were some rare occasions when Amy wasn’t entirely kind to Gina as well.

Gina Removed All Of Amy’s Tires

In the episode, “Your Honor,” Amy set out to teach Gina to change a tire but she ended up doing it for her when Gina tricked her. Determined to make sure Gina learned, Amy slashed her tire, which actually turned out to be someone else’s car which was similar to Gina’s. When Amy came down with the owner of the car to apologize, she found the tire already replaced by Gina, who’d practiced doing it by taking off all the wheels on Amy’s car.

Amy’s persistence to teach Gina here was impressive, especially when Gina kept mocking and tricking her, but it was more surprising that Gina eventually went through with it when she’s notorious for going against everyone and having the sassiest comebacks on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. In typical Gina fashion, she got the last word in by leaving Amy with more work and didn’t even offer to assist her return all the wheels she’d taken off when Amy had been trying to help her.

Gina Mocked Amy’s Pantsuits

Amy’s preferred style for most of the show was pantsuits, usually in demure colors with some colorful shirts inside. Gina made fun of her wardrobe choices on several occasions, calling her outfits drab and boring. She even wore Amy’s clothes to disguise herself during a heist so she’d be unnoticeable and prove her point about the validity of her taunts.

Gina’s mockery of Amy’s look happened so often it became a running gag on the show. Amy never defended herself against the disses, but she stuck to her style regardless, which was impressive considering how often she was made fun of. It was one of the things that led to controversial opinions among Brooklyn Nine-Nine fans about Gina, even though her digs were mostly played off as a joke.

Amy Dismissed Gina’s Offer To Help With The Youth Program

When Holt asked Amy to lead a Junior Policeman Program for at-risk youth, she asked Rosa to join her. Gina also offered to help, but Amy dismissed her and told her she wasn’t a cop so she couldn’t help. Gina spent the rest of the time riling up the kids instead until Amy eventually gave in and asked for her help, and she got a couple of kids to sign up for the program.

On the surface, Amy’s dismissive comment didn’t seem like much of an insult, but taking into consideration how self-conscious Gina was about being the only one in the squad who wasn’t a cop, it was offensive and below the belt. Gina mentioned this during one Halloween heist where she pointed out how unfair it was for the trophy to be labeled the Ultimate Detective/Genius, which left her out of the games since she wasn’t a detective.

Gina Blocked Amy’s Request For A Better Captain

While Holt and Jake were in protective custody, the Nine-Nine got a new captain, C.J., who was clumsy, didn’t care about his job, and let everyone do what they want. Amy lodged a formal complaint to One Police Plaza but Gina sent in several more letters in support of keeping C.J. at their precinct because she and the others were enjoying having a boss they could push around.

Not only did Gina frustrate Amy with this, but she also kept taunting her through Emily, her secretary, whom she tasked with writing down burns to use on Amy. Amy’s request was a genuine one as she was worried that they wouldn’t get any actual police work done, but it was blocked for selfish reasons, which was a testament to Gina’s power on Brooklyn Nine-Nine despite her position as a Civilian Administrator.

Amy Dismissed Gina’s Advice For Holt’s Campaign

During his time in public relations, Holt wanted to do a campaign to reach out to the public so they’d feel free to approach them with any troubles they had. Gina immediately told them it was a terrible idea but both Amy and Holt ignored her opinion since she wasn’t a cop and wouldn’t have the same insight into the matter that they did.

Like Gina predicted, the campaign was a failure because Amy had underestimated Gina in her eagerness to go along with Holt. It wasn’t the only time she’d done that, and Gina made sure to rub their failure in their faces with one of her classic T-shirts printed with one of the shady burns Gina was known for on Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Gina Had A Blackmail File On Amy

Amy and Boyle went to Gina to ask for help getting their internet fixed in the episode “Game Night.” While talking to her about her decision to leave the Nine-Nine for good, she revealed she had blackmail files on the two of them and other members of the squad. Amy’s file only had pictures of her in different pantsuits.

Having a blackmail file on her friends wasn’t the friendliest thing to do and it was worse for Amy because Gina used it as an opportunity to mock Amy’s fashion sense again. At the very least, she was noble enough to give them the files and guarantee not to use them against them.

Gina Refused Amy’s Gift

Gina left the Nine-Nine in season 6 to pursue new business ventures and spend more time with her baby. Her goodbye included “Gina Moments,” which were essentially lessons she left for the rest of the squad. Amy’s goodbye gift to Gina was a big book with printouts of all her tweets, which was sweet especially since it was something Gina had said she wanted several episodes back.

Rather than being flattered by the thoughtfulness of the gift, Gina made Amy burn it and told her that her Gina Moment was learning not to please everyone. The lesson was a good one, but the execution was inconsiderate, considering the work Amy put into making the gift in the first place.
