Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s Latest Weird Bug Lets Players Fly

Although the latest exploit in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War lets players go where no player has gone before, its usefulness is debatable.

One of the newest bugs discovered in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War can potentially let players fly like a superhero – though exploiting it may require sharp reflexes, good memory, and a perfect combination of circumstances. A similar issue is said to be present in Call of Duty: Warzone, although that one still needs to be captured on camera.

Both Call of Duty games have regularly been affected by glitches since launch, some of them exploitable, some not. PC players who break past round 50 in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s Zombies mode have been unintentionally blocked from playing by a random error, while Call of Duty: Warzone has been giving out unlimited Advanced UAV scans. The latter game even saw a premature missile strike recently, foreshadowing a nuke event expected to end Season 2 and signal Verdansk’s replacement. Unlike some other battle royale titles on the market, Call of Duty: Warzone currently has just one map.

In a video shared by user OhhZio on Reddit, a player retracts his parachute to freefall directly onto a ladder. They are then somehow able to leap to a tree, and then from one tree to another, finally sniping an enemy in a house before touching the ground. Other players have speculated that the person is somehow retaining their speed from the airdrop, exploiting a known flaw with ladders to bounce off of the trees. In Call of Duty: Warzone, angled surfaces are said to allow the same kind of leaps after a freefall. The movement is akin to the intentional “skiing” in Dynamix’s Tribes games.

Treyarch and Raven Software will presumably want to address both bugs, but there’s little chance of them becoming a widespread Call of Duty exploit. That would involve many players landing in very specific parts of a map, and learning the terrain well enough to turn the bouncing into an advantage instead of a problem. Other strategies could be simpler and equally as effective, if not more so. The only consistent gains with this Black Ops Cold War glitch are speed and an unpredictable location – in the meantime, players become a conspicuous target.

Not every recent change or discovery in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has been negative. The game recently incorporated a Gunsmith Customs feature from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, letting players combine attachments from Weapon Blueprints of the same weapon type. Players have also been spotting multiple easter eggs, such as a Zombies Outbreak reference to the zombie infection event in Call of Duty: Warzone.
