Dead by Daylight Killer Guide The Hillbilly

The game has received a bounty of added content, from new killers to new arenas, Dead by Daylight is overflowing with content. However, even among the games base roster, there are truly masterful killers to choose from. One of which is the deadly and versatile Hillbilly, considered by most players to be the most powerful Killer in the game. With a range of abilities, skills, and a truly intimidating character design, Hillbilly is the epitome of what it means to be a Killer. However, even with his versatile arsenal of weapons, skills and learnable abilities, Hillbilly can be rather tricky to pick up and excel with. However, with some guidance, even a novice Hillbilly player can become an efficient and deadly Killer, one which will be feared by all Survivors in his path.

Understanding the Hillbilly’s Skills in Dead by Daylight

Dead by Daylight Killer Guide The Hillbilly

The primary tool in Hillbilly’s arsenal is his notorious chainsaw attack. Hillbilly will begin to rev up his chainsaw for a few seconds and then initiate a rapid charge sprinting through the given arena. This move allows the Hillbilly to cover immense ground during this charge and provides the Killer unprecedented speed.

What makes this Chainsaw charge so devastating, is that it grants the Hillbilly an instant kill attack out of the sprint. Essentially morphing the Hillbilly into a hyper-mobile killing machine. However, landing this one hit kill attack is not guaranteed, the strike is rather finicky and can whiff if thrown with reckless abandoned.

The primary downside to this ability is that, if the Hillbilly runs into an environmental hazard, then the character will be left in a stunned state for a few seconds. So the move does grant the Killer an incredible boost of speed, it is not as brainless of an attack as it sounds. A smart Hillbilly player will learn the intricacies of the charge and learn to navigate the rapid Killer with clinical precision.

Hillbilly’s primary gimmick is this powerful charge, and it makes the rather “vanilla” character one of the strongest in the cast. Mastering this ability is what separates a solid Hillbilly from a novice one.

Making Use of the Hillbilly’s Abilities in Dead by Daylight

As mentioned earlier in the guide, Hillbilly is a very basic killer in a game filled with personality and in-depth mechanics. But the character makes up for his lacking personality by having some of the most powerful tools in the game. But to truly get mileage out of his seemingly bare-bones arsenal will take some practice, but can lead to some incredibly quick and brutal rounds of Dead by Daylight.

A major tactic implemented to almost all Hillbilly player’s arsenal is using his Chainsaw charge as a recon ability. Given how incredibly fast the ability is it allows for Hillbilly players to make rounds of a given area extremely efficiently. Plus the fact that the charge has no in-game stopping point other than running into a hazard allows for Hillbilly player to almost endlessly run around a given map. Making it quite easy to find and take out Survivors in the blink of an eye. So utilizing the Chainsaw charge as less of a pure offensive tool and more of a method to efficiently travel a map is the sign of a smart Hillbilly player.

Given the abilities’ instant kill property, a smart Hillbilly player will use the Chainsaw charge as a quick burst to take out a Survivor, rather than using its full charge. Given the drawback of running into an object, a smart Hillbilly will quickly strike with the instant kill attack to kill a Survivor. This requires some advanced understanding of positional advantage in Dead by Daylight as it will require players to understand a good angle to cut off an unsuspecting Survivor, but when mastered makes Hillbilly an imposing force.

Finally, it is important to use abilities that synergize well with Hillbilly’s ability. Teachable perks like Barbeque and Chili play well into Hillbilly’s hand and make him a quick and versatile threat for even the most slippery Survivors. Barbeque being one of the best perks for Hillbilly as it allows the Killer to see any enemy in range of the Killer after hooking a Survivor. This essentially turns Hillbilly from a chainsaw-wielding fiend into a missile locked onto a specific target. Provided his incredible speed and one hit kill potential.

Playing Hillbilly is not a rather difficult task. His relative ease of use is why he is considered to be one of the strongest Killers in the game. With an arsenal of seemingly simple tools that can be extraordinarily deadly in the right hands. A good Hillbilly will mold this seemingly simple arsenal and optimize it until the character is a killing machine. So being creative with the “vanilla” killer will turn even a novice player into a high caliber killer in Dead by Daylight.
