Capcom officially announces that the original Dead Rising is coming to PC, PS4, and Xbox One, along with Dead Rising 2 and Dead Rising 2: Off the Record.

Yesterday, a trophy leak suggested that a PS4 remaster of Dead Rising was on the verge of being announced. Capcom has since confirmed that the original Dead Rising is coming not only to PlayStation 4, but to PC and Xbox One as well. However, the Dead Rising announcements didn’t end there, and it seems as though fans of the franchise have a lot to look forward to before 2016 comes to a close.

In addition to the first Dead Rising, Capcom announced that Dead Rising 2 and Dead Rising 2: Off the Record (a retelling of Dead Rising 2 with original star Frank West returning as the protagonist) will also be making their way to current-gen consoles. However, whereas the first Dead Rising game is coming to PC as well as consoles, the re-releases of Dead Rising 2 and Off the Record will be for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One only.

Since Capcom is not bringing the re-releases Dead Rising 2 or Off the Record to PC, it seems as though these games will not be remasters, but rather ports. After all, PC owners already have access to Dead Rising 2 and Off the Record, and if the new versions of the games aren’t remasters, then that would explain why they weren’t announced for platform.

The release of these games means Xbox One and PC owners will be able to play through every core game in the franchise once Dead Rising 4 releases this December. PlayStation 4 owners, in the meantime, will be somewhat left out, as PS4 still hasn’t received Dead Rising 3, and the upcoming Dead Rising 4 is a timed exclusive for PC and Xbox One.

It will be nice for Dead Rising fans to be able to play through the franchise on modern hardware, but some may be disappointed with the possibility that these Dead Rising games are ports and not remasters. There’s still a chance that the games could boast improved visuals or new gameplay features in some form, but fans should temper their expectations until Capcom is ready to reveal more details.

More information on these Dead Rising re-releases is promised to be coming “soon,” but how soon is not clear just yet. The 10 year anniversary of the first game’s release is on August 8th, so Capcom may mark the occasion with a blowout on what to expect from the games. Alternatively, Capcom could reveal more at Gamescom, but whenever these re-releases are announced, it seems likely that the games will be available ahead of Dead Rising 4’s launch later this year.
