The countdown for the release of the upcoming Black Adam film may still be a year out, but fans are eager to see Dwayne Johnson portray the corrupt villain. Now, the wrester-turned-actor has weighed in on the chances of seeing his DC anti-hero face Superman.

Black Adam has been talked about and confirmed for over six years now, including Johnson already being signed onto the project. Yet, with the film’s long-distance arrival finally approaching the rear-view mirror, digging up hidden details about Black Adam is much more probable. In terms of what fans would like to see happen, they have had loads of time to sit and dream of just who will face up against the troubled anti-hero in the film. Black Adam has gone head to head against a plethora of different DC heroes throughout the years, specifically his legendary encounters with Superman.

Yet, many fans have a dream of seeing Johnson’s Black Adam and Henry Cavill’s Superman encounter and face off with one another on-screen. It turns out that fans may not be the only ones hoping and praying for a Superman and Black Adam run-in. Johnson took to Twitter to express his shared dream for the two characters to cross over with one another. Johnson tweeted a comic page from Doomsday Clock, which pictures Black Adam and Superman meeting and shaking hands respectfully. Johnson wrote in the caption, “I like it, sort of how I always envisioned it. Except the handshake at the end. Never. Wrong guy.” Many fans, after seeing this post, are assuming that Johnson is alluding to and hinting that this crossover may in fact take place. Producer of the film Hiram Garcia stated in an interview with Collider recently, “Hard to say, but I know that would be incredible if it ever did happen! We certainly know fans want it! All I can say is that we’re always listening to the fans and doing what we can!”

Johnson seems pretty confident in his character’s evil strength and Garcia revealed that is the exact reason why a crossover might be a bit difficult. If someone challenges Black Adam, even if it’s Superman, Garcia isn’t too confident that he could even stop the villain. Garcia stated, “I think the fans are going to love it, and I think with the piece we released at DC Fandom, we also showed everyone the tone we’re playing in, where it’s going to be fun, but Black Adam is a very different kind of antihero than what we’re used to. He’s very different from Shazam, he’s very different from Superman. If you cross him, a lot of people don’t walk away from that. So that’s fun for us, to have DJ playing a character like that which he typically hasn’t played before – look, I think you’re going to love it. The movie’s big and it’s a lot of fun – but it’s got a lot of edge to it, and I think the world is ready for that.”

Of course, there’s also the issue of Cavill’s future as Superman being up in the air. While Cavill has expressed interest in returning as the Man of Steel, rumors about him leaving the role have persisted since he last played in the character in Justice League.

Black Adam will be in theaters on July 29, 2022.
