Every Sonic The Hedgehog Game Reveal From Segas Event

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog, SEGA hosted its first official Sonic Central event. The livestream covered a slew of Sonic-related news, including several reveals of new and returning Sonic games.

Sonic Central functioned similarly to a Nintendo Direct, except it was entirely about the blue hedgehog. Although the first Sonic Central only lasted around 15 minutes, one of SEGA’s representatives mentioned in the livestream that fans should anticipate even more announcements as the year goes on, meaning there will probably be at least one or two more Sonic Centrals before 2021 ends.

The biggest reveal of the event, of course, was a tease for a new Sonic the Hedgehog game coming in 2022. Other than a tentative release window, however, fans still don’t know much about the game. The short teaser trailer only showed a few seconds of Sonic running through a forest, followed by a mysterious symbol. Hopefully, more information will come later this year.

SEGA also revealed Sonic Colors: Ultimate, a remaster of 2010’s Sonic Colors. Launching on September 7, Sonic Colors: Ultimate is heading to PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC and will update the game’s appearance and gameplay, as well as add a new mode called Rival Rush. Sonic Central also revealed Sonic Colors: Rise of the Wisps, a two-part animated series based on the game. The animation will feature Roger Craig Smith, the longtime Sonic voice actor who recently rejoined the franchise.

Another new game for fans to look forward to – especially those who’ve been around since Sonic’s ’90s outings – is Sonic Origins. Sonic Origins is yet another compilation of class Sonic games and includes Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 and Knuckles, and Sonic CD. As of writing, there’s no set release date for the collection.

In addition, some Sonic games are coming to new platforms. On June 24, Sonic Mania is heading to the Epic Games Store on PC, and PlayStation Now will include Sonic Forces, Sonic Mania and Team Sonic Racing starting June 1. Although there was no announced release date, Amazon Luna will also be getting Sonic Mania and Team Sonic Racing later this year.

Though not new games entirely, Sonic Central included a few announcements for Sonic mobile games. Sonic Forces: Speed Battle is getting Super Sonic as a new character, and Sonic Dash will have a pirate-themed event, in which players can dress up Sonic and Shadow in stereotypical pirate costumes. In both games, the Werehog from Sonic Unleashed will be featured around Halloween as a special seasonal addition. Finally, Sonic Racing is going to add “classic” characters, cars, tracks and music.
