Every TV Show Reboot Coming In 2022

Over the last decade, television reboots have proven to be the bread and butter of television for better or worse. For every infamous Powerpuff Girls reboot or the terrible Heroes Reborn, there is a slew of great TV reboots like One Day At A Time or DuckTales. The great reboots bring some fresh perspective to the original series, while the terrible ones are just trainwrecks.

More importantly, audiences of the original series love the nostalgia that comes with reboots while new viewers appreciate having a version of pop culture history that is for a new generation. TV show reboots range from sitcoms to dramas, reality shows, and even animated series. And while lots have launched to date, plenty more are coming, too.

How I Met Your Father (Hulu)

It isn’t necessarily a reboot but rather a standalone sequel to the long-running and popular sitcom How I Met Your Mother, which aired from 2005-2014. The series not only aims to modernize the plot and do a gender switch with the story being told from the mother’s perspective instead of the dad’s, but it also hopes to provide an ending that won’t be as polarizing. Still, there are things fans hope How I Met Your Father keeps from the original.

Set to premiere on Hulu on January 18, 2022, the show will kick off the year with a fun story about how a woman navigated a single scene in New York with dating apps and technology before finally settling down.

Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air (Peacock)

This sitcom made a star out of Will Smith, who went on to become one of the biggest movie stars of this generation. The fish-out-of-water story was about a young high schooler who, after his mother fears he might be led down the wrong path, is sent to live with his wealthy aunt, uncle, and cousins in Bel-Air.

Following the cast reunion show, which aired on HBO Max at the end of 2020, a drama reboot of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is currently in development with a new cast. Two seasons have already been confirmed ahead of the launch, which will be on NBC’s streaming service Peacock.

Criminal Minds (Paramount+)

Like many other police procedurals, Criminal Minds spawned several spin-offs through its long run from 2005 to 2020, including Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior and Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders. The hit show for CBS was about criminal profilers working within the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) to help investigate and solve crimes.

Paramount+ will be home to the revival, along with a true-crime docuseries companion show called The Real Criminal Minds. While rumors were floating in the summer that the revival wasn’t happening, Paramount+ refuted those claims, according to Forbes. All episodes of the original series are also available to stream on the same service.

Joe Millionaire (Fox)

Joe Millionaire was one of the best TV one-season wonders of all time. It was like The Bachelor except the women were vying for the attention of a man they believed to be a millionaire when, in reality, he was just an average joe with a modest salary. Once the woman he fell for, and who presumably fell for him, found out, would she still love him?

The original aired on Fox back in 2003 with two seasons, and now, eight years later, a third season is finally planned. Called Joe Millionaire: For Richer or Poorer, it will premiere on January 6, 2022, and flip the script with two bachelors, one of whom is secretly a millionaire and the other who is not.

The Flintstones (Fox)

While an official premiere date hasn’t yet been confirmed, Elizabeth Banks is working on a sequel series to the iconic animated series The Flintstones. According to Variety, the show Bedrock will take place 20 years after the events of the original show.

The story will follow the lives of the kids, Pebbles and Bam Bam, along with Fred, who is nearing retirement age. The world is also shifting from the Stone Age, when the original took place, to the new Bronze Age, which requires an adjustment for everyone.

The Kids In The Hall (Amazon Prime Video)

Hailing from Canada, this sketch comedy series originally aired for five seasons from 1988 to 1995 on both CBC in Canada and HBO in the U.S. The comedy troupe of five members played almost every character in The Kids in the Hall.

In 2020, Amazon Prime Video confirmed that the show would be returning for eight more episodes. The full cast would be coming back and it would serve as a continuation of the original. When it comes back, it will mark the first Amazon original from Canada.

Frasier (Paramount+)

Originally airing from 1993 through to 2004, Frasier was one of the most successful sitcom spin-offs, born out of the character first introduced on Cheers. Dr. Frasier Crane was a skilled psychiatrist who also had his radio show.

It’s no surprise given the tremendous success of this series, which included earning 37 Emmy awards, that a revival has finally been confirmed. The show will be released on Paramount+ sometime in 2022. While not much is known about the direction the season will take, Vulture confirms that the character will now be even wealthier than he was before.

Party Down (Starz)

Party Down was one of those sitcoms that ended far too early, with many of its stars moving on to star in big projects, including Jane Lynch, who was cast on Glee, and Adam Scott, who starred in Parks and Recreation. The show, which was executive produced in part by Paul Rudd, aired on Starz for just two seasons from 2009-2010. It’s one of many hilarious workplace sitcoms fans say are worth binging.

The show was about a group of caterers working in Los Angeles, who longed to make it in Hollywood so they’d finally be at the other end of the parties they worked. Starz ordered a six-episode revival in November 2021. Deadline reported that six of the seven original stars would be returning, including Lynch, Scott, Ken Marino, Martin Starr, Ryan Hansen, and Megan Mullally. The only star not returning is Lizzy Caplan due to scheduling conflicts. Production will begin in January 2022 though there’s no official premiere date.

Pretty Little Liars (HBO Max)

Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin will actually be a spin-off, focusing on a new cast and a different setting. It will mark the third spin-off of the show, which originally aired on Freeform from 2010-2017, joining Ravenswood and Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists. It will launch on HBO Max.

The original teen mystery drama was loosely based on the Sara Shepard novel series of the same name. Pretty Little Liars followed the story of five best friends whose lives are turned upside down when their leader goes missing and a mysterious figure threatens to reveal their deepest, darkest secrets. Production commenced in August 2021, notes Seventeen, so chances are that the show will debut before the end of 2022.
