The Final Fantasy 7 Remake demo has quite a few secrets and Easter Eggs, with one that even references a beloved spin-off game.

The Final Fantasy 7 Remake demo gives fans the chance to play through the iconic opening bombing mission, remade and reimagined. It’s a good chance to test out the remake’s combat, but there are a few extra things to see and do.

The demo has quite a few Easter Eggs and secrets to uncover, some of which are a real treat for fans of the series. Most of the secrets are fairly easy to find, luckily.

With this many Easter Eggs in a demo just over an hour, it brings up the question of how much might be in the full game. Here’s every secret and Easter Egg you can find in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake demo.

Cloud’s Two Combat Stances

Cloud has two different modes to use in combat (Operator and Punisher) and while this may seem like a simple gameplay mechanic, there’s an interesting little Easter Egg with it. The two stances that Cloud uses for these modes are directly adapted from two important people. Anyone who’s played the original game knows that Cloud isn’t a Soldier First-Class, as the memories he has are actually that of his best friend, Zack Fair.

In the remake Cloud’s Operator stance is exactly that of Zack, gripping the Buster Sword in a forward position with both hands. Punisher, on the other hand, has Cloud take a stance where he holds the sword up by his head, and it’s eerily similar to Sephiroth’s general combat stance. This is most likely a smart way to reference Cloud’s past, and how his current personality is a mash-up of memories.

Banora White Poster and Crisis Core

When players first enter the train station in the demo, a poster to the right advertises Banora White, something Crisis Core fans will be immediately familiar with. In the prequel game, Banora White are the apples the town of Banora is known for, otherwise known as Dumbapples. Although it’s a small Easter Egg, this seemingly confirms that Banora, the hometown of Angeal and Genesis, is still cannon within the remake, potentially opening up the door to more.

The Demo Has a Secret Ending

The Final Fantasy 7 Remake demo has a secret scene tucked away, although it’s nothing huge. Near the end of the demo, players can choose to set the bomb timer for 20 or 30 minutes. By choosing 20 minutes and making it out successfully, a small extra scene will be added on after the demo ends. The scene shows Cloud looking at something before terror flashes on his face and the scene zooms in on his eye. Things then flip to the iconic shot of Sephiroth in a fire, what the original game showed as the villain burned Nibelheim to the ground.

Barret Sings the Final Fantasy Victory Theme

Barret takes a cue from Prompto in Final Fantasy XV, as during the demo there’s a random chance that he’ll break out singing the victory theme after a battle ends. There’s no specific point that it happens, but playing through the demo a couple of times will make it pop up.

The First Battle Raises Cloud to Level 7

This Easter Egg is a nice little reference to the original. In Final Fantasy 7, the very first battle of the game with two Shinra soldiers raises Cloud to level 7. The remake does the same thing, with Cloud fighting two Shinra soldiers and instantly leveling to 7.

The Mysterious Moogle Medal

Much like Barret’s victory fanfare, there’s an optional item that players can get during the demo called a Moogle Medal. The item’s description simply says it’s valuable to collectors, but there’s nothing else to do with it in the demo. Most likely Moogle Medals will do something in the main game, maybe similar to Oracle Ascension Coins in Final Fantasy XV. However, the idea of a Moogle Medal is also strikingly similar to the Kupo Coins in Kingdom Hearts 3.

The Reason Behind All That Spiky Hair

Apart from Banora White, there are several fun little posters dotted throughout the demo. The best of those, however, gives a reason for all of those crazy haircuts Final Fantasy 7 Remake characters have. An add for Hair Tonic boasts that it creates “astonishingly radiant & spiky hair!” So that’s how Cloud keeps his ‘do up.
