Genshin Impact 21 New Fishing Gameplay Explained

The latest Genshin Impact 2.1 content will arrive on September 1, 2021. The update will add new playable characters like Baal and Sara, two new islands to explore, and additional events, weapons, and Artifacts. Version 2.1 will also introduce a fishing mechanic to Genshin Impact, offering players a chance to craft their own baits, collect fish, and trade their catches in for rewards.

The concept of fishing in Genshin Impact had leaked online prior to the 2.1 Special Program, which officially confirmed the feature. In its most recent updates, the free-to-play RPG from miHoYo had been moving into more life simulator-like mechanics, so fishing makes a natural progression from the housing and crafting systems already present in the game. To unlock fishing, players will need to have first unlocked the Serenitea Pot and completed the “Exploding Population” quest.

Different bodies of water will have different species of fish and require different types of bait. Once fishing is unlocked in Genshin Impact, players can make their own bait using Crafting Benches. The four types of bait confirmed so far for 2.1 are Fruit Paste Bait, Redrot Bait, False Worm Bait, and Fake Fly Bait. Additionally, each type of bait is suited to different species of fish. To find a Fishing Point, players will need to look for ripples on the water’s surface. Fishing Points will refresh every three days.

Genshin Impact 2.1 Fishing Mechanics & Rewards Explained

Once fishing is unlocked in Genshin Impact 2.1, players can exchange the fish they catch with the Fishing Association. Representatives for the Fishing Association can be found in Mondstadt, Liyue, and Inazuma. The fish can be exchanged for various rewards, including a Furniture Blueprint for “Pool of Sapphire Grace” and a new 4-star polearm appropriately called The Catch. The refinement materials for this polearm can be found at the Fishing Association as well.

Additionally, players can choose to keep the fish they catch and use them in cooking recipes. If they opt to create the Pool of Sapphire Grace, then Ornamental Fish that are caught can be placed and raised in this pool within the Serenitea Pot. From what was shown in the Genshin Impact 2.1 livestream, it looks like fishing will be based primarily on Tension-based mechanics, similar to fishing in other RPGs. And to make finding Fishing Points easier, a new Fishing pin has been added for people to use on the in-game map.

Fishing mini-games are an increasingly popular part of video games, so it’s no real surprise miHoYo is adding it into Genshin Impact 2.1. Still, it looks like a fun new way to play – and the rewards seem good enough to incentivize most players to try it out at least once. For those needing breaks from combat or the main storyline, fishing looks like a great and relaxing alternative.
