Ghost Of Tsushima Director Cuts Iki Island Expansion Explained

Coming in August, just over a year since its initial release, Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut is bringing new content and PlayStation 5-specific features to the game. An ESRB rating leaked the Director’s Cut a few days prior to the announcement, but now developer Sucker Punch has officially unveiled what all will be included. The biggest piece of content in Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut will be a new adventure for Jin to the neighboring island of Iki.

Iki Island is located southeast of Tsushima, and also suffered a Mongol invasion in the 13th century. Jin initially travels to the island to investigate the Mongol presence, but will become embroiled in a story that has him once again facing his past. The narrative will be wholly original and feature new characters. Beyond this, no exact details have been revealed by Sucker Punch.

The Iki Island expansion is not exclusively story-related, and will expand on other aspects of the game as well. The Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut includes “new environments to explore, new armor for Jin as well as his horse, new mini-games, new techniques, new enemy types, and much more,” according to PlayStation’s blog. Additionally, Iki Island is not standalone, and will be integrated into the main story arc. It can be accessed anytime after Ghost of Tsushima’s second act has begun, even if players have already completed the story.

How To Access Iki Island In Ghost Of Tsushima

Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut goes on sale August 20, and can be purchased for $60 on PS4, and $70 on PS5. Those who already own Ghost of Tsushima can upgrade to the Director’s Cut (i.e. buy access to the Iki Island expansion) for an additional $20. Since the Director’s Cut is the first PS5 version of Ghost, it will be a $30 upgrade to go from PS4 to PS5 Director’s Cut.

As for in-game access to Iki Island, the path to the new areas will presumably pop up as a new Tale – the term Ghost of Tsushima uses for its side quests. Getting to Iki Island requires players to complete the first of three acts in Ghost of Tsushima, so that the Toyotama region is available. This might be an indication that the foes on Iki Island will at least pose a respectable threat, since quite a few upgrades can be collected for Jin within Act 1. Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut launches on August 20, but can already be preordered from the PlayStation Store, as well as various retailers, for both PS4 and PS5.
