Ghostbusters Afterlife Image Shows New Look At The Next Generation

The latest image from Ghostbusters: Afterlife reveals a new look at the next generation of ghost hunters. The Ghostbusters franchise has long been an iconic part of film history, and it’s getting another shot at a modern reboot. 2016 saw an all-female Ghostbusters attempt to bring the 80s property into today, but a middling box office total stopped any chances of a sequel. Afterlife was then announced to be in development in early 2019, with an eye on a summer 2020 release. With Jason Reitman, the son of the original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman, at the helm, it finally looks like fans are getting the third film they have always dreamt of.

Afterlife centers on a single mother (Carrie Coon) and her two children Phoebe and Trevor (McKenna Grace and Finn Wolfhard) after they move to a small town in Oklahoma and discover old Ghostbuster equipment in their late grandfather’s house. The legacy ties, as well as the inclusion of much of Ghostbusters’ original cast, promise a more faithful sequel to the first films. Unfortunately, despite the anticipation surrounding Afterlife, the film has suffered many delays due to the coronavirus pandemic. Currently, it is scheduled for release in June of this year.

The latest image from Ghostbusters: Afterlife comes courtesy of Empire, who unveiled it Monday morning. The shot features both Grace and Wolfhard alongside Logan Kim, who plays Phoebe’s friend. All three kids are decked out in Ghostbusters jumpsuits, and it looks like they’re sitting in Ecto-1. Check it out down below.

The first trailer for Afterlife was released back in December 2019, and due to the many delays the film has endured since then, fans have been forced to wait even longer for more news. The above image is one of the first peeks at Afterlife to emerge in months, and it’s bound to increase excitement. A new generation of Ghostbusters with ties to the original team is a compelling concept, and it’s clear Afterlife will be putting a great deal of focus on these kids. Returning star Dan Aykroyd said Afterlife sets up sequels, and it’s all but certain they would focus on the likes of Phoebe and Trevor as they keep their grandfather’s legacy alive.

Before sequels can be discussed, however, Afterlife actually has to be released. As the state of moviegoing is questionable right now, it’s hard to say if the long-awaited Ghostbusters flick will actually make that date. For the time being, fans will no doubt remain optimistic. Reitman previously said the delays are beneficial for Afterlife, but at some point, audiences would probably like to see it. As they wait, hopefully a new trailer will be released soon to help further reignite interest.
