Glee 10 Things That Make No Sense About Rachel Berry

In Fox’s hit musical series Glee, Rachel Berry was certainly one of the most loved and hated characters of the show. She was extremely talented and had major dreams of making it to Broadway and becoming the next Barbara Streisand. Though her dreams were big her attitude was also a huge thing about her that she wasn’t afraid to show off. Her storyline often changed throughout each of the six seasons of the show and most of them lost touch with how her character used to be.

Here we have listed ten things that make no sense about Rachel Berry!

10 Her Dads

From season one of Glee, Rachel Berry was very vocal about her two dads and always found a way to bring up the fact that she had, in her own words, “two gay dads.” Though her wording it that way wasn’t the weirdest thing, it was actually the fact that her dads are played by two different sets of men in the series. In the “Pilot” episode, we see Rachel talking about her dads as she shows off a picture of the two of them- but in season three episode “Heart” they are replaced with two more well-known actors Jeff Goldblum and Brian Stokes Mitchell.

9 Her Crush On Mr. Schuester

Quite possibly one of the cringiest storylines of the entire series has to be in season one when Rachel finds herself crushing on Mr. Schuester after the two duet “Endless Love.” Not only did this crush completely come out of nowhere, but it also happens while Rachel is already crushing on Finn but isn’t getting anywhere with him since he is already in a relationship at the time. After the two sing the duet together, Rachel starts showing up at Mr. Schue’s house and turns into a complete psycho cleaning his home and waiting on him in the choir room. Thankfully, this crush only lasted for one episode because it was definitely out of character for Rachel and extremely weird.

8 Her Gold Star Signature

We first see Rachel’s gold star signature in the “Pilot” episode as she says “my gold star is a metaphor for me being a star” and if that doesn’t describe season one, Rachel Berry, then nothing will. Seeing her signature and her determination to become a literal Broadway star was definitely refreshing and nice to see in a character. But surprisingly, as the seasons go on, we rarely (if ever) see her cute little gold star again after the first season!

Whether it was just her character development or maybe she ran out of stickers, this tiny little detail went away pretty quickly and it doesn’t make too much sense as to why since it fit her quirky personality perfectly.

7 Her & Finn Almost Getting Married

Glee 10 Things That Make No Sense About Rachel Berry

Although getting married while in high school isn’t something completely new and most people swear that they met their soulmate in high school, Rachel and Finn’s shotgun wedding was really out of nowhere and felt very rushed. It was made pretty clear in the episode that they were just feeling unsure about their future and were just wanting to quickly push their relationship to the next level. Their relationship was pretty rocky and back and forth from the get-go, so the two of them wanting to rush into marriage at such a young age was a bad idea and made absolutely no sense.

6 She Went On A Date With Blaine

After being introduced to Blaine Anderson in season two, everyone found themselves rooting for Kurt and Blaine’s relationship to take off since they were practically perfect for each other- but Rachel had other ideas. Of course, any good friend who avoid hitting on someone that they knew their friend had a crush on, but Rachel went out of her way to take Blaine on a date and try to prove that he wasn’t gay. By the end of the date, she quickly realizes that he is indeed gay and ultimately decided they are just good friends and after that their date is never mentioned again nor is Rachel ever called a bad friend for doing one of the worst things possible to Kurt.

5 Her Relationship With Shelby

After Rachel finally meets her birth mother, Shelby Corcoran in season one, who just so happens to be the coach of her Glee club’s biggest rival Vocal Adrenaline they seemed to have a couple of problems at first just before their relationship starts to look up. Since the two worked with rival choirs and Shelby tried to get Jesse St. James to flirt with Rachel just so that he could spy on the Glee club’s musical ideas—things definitely weren’t off to the greatest start for their mother/daughter relationship.

Ultimately, by the end of season one, they are able to work through their differences and realize that they are more alike than they thought.

4 Lessons Never Really Stuck With Her

Glee 10 Things That Make No Sense About Rachel Berry

Throughout all six seasons of the series, Rachel has a lot of different experiences both good and bad- but as normal people would often learn from those mistakes, she did not. After acting like a complete diva and begging for solos in Glee Club along with sending Sunshine Corazon to a crack house, which she should have gotten expelled for, you would think that she would have at least learned something. Her mistakes never tend to stick with her nor does she ever learn her lesson in any of the six seasons!

3 Making Finn Feel Bad For His Past

When Rachel and Finn finally decided to take their relationship seriously and become a couple in season one episode “Sectionals,” viewers were excited to see where it would take them. But as any relationship has expects to have problems brought up from the past, Rachel exceeded those expectations when she purposely cheated on Finn with Puck after finding out that he slept with Santana earlier in the season while the two were not dating. Not only was this a completely dumb act on Rachel’s part, but it also just shows how rigid a character she truly was.

2 Her Friendship With Kurt

Although Rachel and Kurt often bumped heads throughout the series, the two were still very close friends and at one point she even went on to call him her “best friend soul mate.” As in most friendships, there is often one person who treats the other badly at times and has more rough patches than others, but to say that Rachel treated Kurt badly would be an understatement.

All that Kurt ever tried to do for Rachel was watch her back and help her realize her wrong points. She rarely ever listened to his judgment and often went behind his back throughout the series, and some of the things that she did really should have not been as easily forgiven. But at the end of the episodes, Kurt always ended up apologizing for her bad behavior.

1 She Quit Broadway

Fans of the series watched for 6 seasons to see Rachel make her way to Broadway and live out her dream of becoming the next Barbara Streisand, but by the time she made it to New York in season 6 things changed drastically and it was most certainly not in normal Rachel Berry fashion. She was one of the biggest dreamers of the show and as soon as she reached her lifelong dream she quit and turned to star in her own reality TV show instead—definitely a quick storyline change that no one saw coming nor did it make any sense whatsoever.
