Will Poulter, the actor who will star as Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, reacts to playing a character stronger than Thanos (Josh Brolin). Following years of speculation, it’s been finally confirmed that the cosmic character is indeed coming to the MCU. Given that, there’s renewed interest in what his role in the franchise will be moving forward, especially since the Infinity Saga has already wrapped up.

Ever since Warlock’s arrival was explicitly hinted at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, fans have been wondering when he would be introduced. Since he was a main player in the Infinity Saga storyline from the comics, there was massive anticipation that he could either be in Avengers: Infinity War or Avengers: Endgame. But, that didn’t happen, which makes sense considering how dense and packed those films already were. In light of these rumors, casting speculations have also been circulating for years, and director James Gunn had to squash some of them. That’s until news broke out that Poulter has indeed been chosen as the MCU’s Adam Warlock. Now that his appearance is confirmed for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the public is both equally excited and curious how his looming arrival will impact the MCU.

As previously mentioned, Warlock played a pivotal part in the Infinity Saga comics narrative. He’s dubbed as one of the most powerful characters in the Marvel lore and has fought and defeated Thanos before in print. When asked by Flip Your Wig (via u/l_l_l-illiam on Reddit) regarding this particularly impressive detail for his character, Poulter said that he’s incredibly grateful to join the Marvel family and the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. Given his hero’s superpowers, he revealed that he’s getting ready to flex it on the big screen once he debuts. Watch the interview below:

With Thanos now gone in the MCU, chances of seeing him and Warlock battle each other are very slim. That being said, the introduction of the multiverse could offer a way for the pair to encounter each other on the big screen. While variants of the Mad Titan are dead in the Sacred Timeline and in the reality where the Soul and Power Stone came from in the time heist, there are countless more universes that could still have their iteration of the character. And since the end of Loki allows these branches of realities to overlap, it’s not outside of reality that a version of Thanos ends up in the prime MCU timeline. Assuming that this is in the cards for the MCU, don’t expect it to happen anytime soon.

With specific plot details for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 still tightly under wraps, it’s difficult to predict how Warlock fits into the narrative. There have been several clues, however, as to what the threequel might tackle. That includes the current whereabouts of 2014 Gamora (Zoe Saldana), who fled after the defeat of Thanos in Endgame. Rocket Raccoon’s (Bradley Cooper) origin story could very well also be revealed. In any case, with production on the cusp of starting, expect to learn more about the film in the upcoming weeks.
