Box art for Halo Infinite was revealed today ahead of Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase on July 23rd. The showcase will focus on campaign gameplay for Halo Infinite, and the box art for the game is a pretty clear callback to Halo: CE. Not obvious at a first glance, but the art has a few hidden hints and surprises for fans to find. Inside Master Chief’s helmet is a reflection of what could be the game’s main villain, and he also has a grappling hook attached to his side.

There are a few possibilities for who the villains in Halo: Infinite could end up being. Last month 343 Studios released a short teaser with audio hinting that one of the main villains from Halo Wars 2 is returning for Halo: Infinite. The “Signal Detected” video is an audio recording from an unknown speaker, but certain phrases used like “No more prophets, no more lies” and “We are the Banished” heavily imply that the villain is Atriox from Halo Wars 2. Atriox leads The Banished, a subset of the Covenant that rebelled against the Prophets once the Covenant become too powerful. Atriox is the only person to leave the Covenant and survive, and it seems like he’s set on obtaining a new Halo Ring. Looking at the box art reveal today, it seems that there is a broken Halo ring in the background behind Master Chief.
In one of the more unusual ways to reveal a character, a recent set of toys Mega Bloks released includes a new Halo character. In the Defense Point Showdown set, there’s an enemy commander known as Hyperius, who’s wearing a Spartan helmet on his right shoulder. Although not confirmed, the helmet resembles that of one of the main characters in Halo 5, Locke, who survives the end of the game but is still working towards defeating Cortana. Whether he has been defeated, captured, or it’s just a strange coincidence is still up for speculation, however, 343 Studios reassured fans that the Megabloks sets do not spoil anything for Halo: Infinite

Taking a closer look at the inside of Master Chiefs’ visor, there seems to be a Brute character reflected. Brutes, also known as Jiralhanae, are powerful carnivores from the planet Doisac. While many joined the Covenant, some created remnant factions and tried to fight back. The Banished, led by Atriox, consists primarily of Brutes rebelling against the Covenant, leading them to invade the Ark during the campaign of Halo Wars 2.
One of the most pivotal characters in the Halo series, Cortana, is also set to make a return as a main antagonist in Halo: Infinite. Previously one of the series’ heroes, Cortana became one of the most powerful beings in the galaxy after her resurrection in Halo 5. She also plays an important role in Halo Wars 2, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if her and Atriox’s paths cross in the Halo: Infinite’s campaign. With an array of possibilities, it seems like there will be multiple villains in Halo: Infinite for Master Chief to fight against.
