In the mid-‘90s, the double whammy of Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore quickly established Adam Sandler as a comedy superstar. Having emerged as one of Saturday Night Live’s most memorable cast members, the sky was the limit for Sandler as he took the world by storm. In the years since, the Sandman has starred in dozens of comedies varying in quality.

Although he’s made better movies since fighting Bob Barker on a golf course, like Punch-Drunk Love and Uncut Gems, Happy Gilmore is arguably still his funniest starring vehicle to date. So, here are the 10 funniest scenes in Happy Gilmore.

10 Happy Attacks His Caddy

When he first begins his run at the golf championship that will pay for his grandma’s house, Happy is completely unfamiliar with how the game is played.

When Happy’s caddy picks up his clubs, he thinks he’s just some sneaky flyboy trying to steal them, so he mercilessly attacks the poor kid.

9 Chubbs’ Wooden Hand Is Destroyed

Although he’s mainly cast in action roles, Carl Weathers is a brilliant comedic actor. From his self-parody in Arrested Development to his absurdist portrayal of Chubbs Peterson in Happy Gilmore, Weathers has given a ton of fine comic performances.

Chubbs has a wooden hand as a reference to Weather’s character in Predator, who had his arm ripped off, and in one unfortunate scene, his wooden hand falls on the street and gets run over by a truck.

8 “You Can Trouble Me For A Warm Glass Of Shut The Hell Up!”

Before he became one of the comedy genre’s most prominent everymen, Ben Stiller played a horrible nursing home orderly named Hal in Happy Gilmore.

When Happy’s grandma first moves into the nursing home, she asks him, “Sir, can I trouble you for a glass of warm milk?” With pitch-perfect comic timing, Hal replies, “You can trouble me for a warm glass of shut the hell up!”

7 All In The Hips

Although Happy is great at whacking a golf ball like a hockey puck and sending it across the course, his weaknesses arise on the putting green when he has to show restraint and carefully knock the ball toward the hole.

Surrounded by spectators, Happy almost cracked under pressure when he first attempted to putt, so Chubbs stepped in to help him out. He writhed up against him and told him that putting is “all in the hips.”

6 “You Eat Pieces Of S*** For Breakfast?”

Shooter McGavin is one of film comedy’s greatest villains, because he’s really hateable without being truly intimidating or scary. He poses a threat to Happy on the golf course, but he’s ultimately a pretty pathetic guy, and Happy can often outsmart him.

A prime example of this is when Shooter tells Happy, “I eat pieces of sh*t like you for breakfast,” and Happy quips back, “You eat pieces of sh*t for breakfast?”

5 Happy Fights The Alligator That Ate Chubbs’ Hand

Happy’s mentor Chubbs is missing a hand, because it was bitten off by an alligator. During one of his forays into the water after hitting his ball in there, he sees that the ball was eaten by an alligator – the same alligator that took Chubbs’ hand. So, he wrestles with it and, after a brutal underwater scuffle, gets the ball.

4 Rhyming Sarcasm

Happy’s back-and-forth with Shooter is hilarious, as he constantly outwits his opponent, much to said opponent’s chagrin. Early in the tournament, Shooter tells Happy, “Just stay out of my way or you’ll pay. Listen to what I say.”

Happy sarcastically replies, “Hey, why don’t I just go and eat some hay? I can lay by the bay, make things out of clay – I just may. What do ya say?”

3 Hal Runs A Sweatshop Out Of The Nursing Home

Ben Stiller’s performance as the nursing home orderly Hal in Happy Gilmore is essentially a cameo appearance, but he shows up in a couple of scenes and steals all of them, so he feels like a more important character than that.

In one scene, he extends the nursing home’s arts and crafts time to four hours and runs the activity like a sweatshop, forcing the elderly people to make knockoff products for him to sell on the street.

2 Happy Screams At The Ball

When he’s told to simply send the ball home on the putting green by spiritualist Gary Potter, Happy takes a shot and misses the hole. So, he dives down on the ground and screams at the ball. He yells, “Son of a b*tch ball! Why didn’t you go home!? That’s your home! Are you too good for your home!? Answer me!”

1 “The Price Is Wrong, B****!”

Midway through the golf tournament, there’s a game that pairs up the players with celebrity partners. Happy is joined by Bob Barker, who doesn’t take too kindly to his reckless behavior and uncontrollable rage.

In the middle of the game, Happy gets into a fight with Barker, who turns out to be a badass, after The Price is Right host insults his golfing skills. Barker even has the perfect quippy one-liner – “The price is wrong, b*tch!” – to complement the ass-whooping he hands out.
