Home Alone 10 Memes That Are Too Hilarious

Home Alone is one of those classic Christmas movies that you watch again and again every year. Released in 1990, it stars Macaulay Culkin as Kevin, a young boy who, in the hustle and bustle of leaving on vacation with extended family, is accidentally left home alone. With two hapless burglars in the area, Kevin is forced to defend his home from attack and comes up with some really creative ways to do it.

The movie, which is widely considered one of the best Christmas movies of all time, has inspired quotable phrases, like “ya filthy animal…” and the signature hands-on-the-cheeks-scream. It’s the type of movie that the whole family can sit down and watch together as they laugh at the hijinks and unbelievability of it all.

To get you geared up to watch the film for what will probably be the 20th time, here are some hilarious memes.

10 What? You Like Creed?

Much like Nickelback and Coldplay, Creed is one of those ‘90s post-grunge rock bands that people somehow don’t want to admit that they like. There’s no real rhyme or reason why, but Creed is simply considered a band that only certain types of people like.

So this meme personifies the cultural bias against Creed by showcasing what someone might look like when they discover that a potential new partner, actually thinks Creed was a great band and were fans of their power ballads. Sorry, we may have to cut ties now.

9 House Too Big

When you think back to the premise of Home Alone, it does seem totally ridiculous. The family is frazzled as they pack for the big holiday trip. Kevin gets in trouble and is sent to the attic to sleep for the night in a bedroom set-up that would rival any regular bedroom, much less an attic. When everyone sleeps in by accident, they frantically get dressed, run out to the cars and head to the airport. A nosy neighboring child is mistakenly counted as Kevin so they think he’s there when he’s still fast asleep in bed.

While fan theories abound as to how the family afforded such a massive home, that’s another topic altogether. However, the reality is that the house was so insanely large that somehow the parents forgot their child.

8 Knock, Knock

The two hapless criminals in the series were played wonderfully by Daniel Stern and Joe Pesci. Pesci’s character Harry poses as a police officer to scope out the place. Then he and Marv (Stern) plot to target the massive house, seeing all of the expensive goodies inside. They are elated when they believe to have discovered that a young boy is there on his own.

They do first come knocking, as this meme implies, using a fun play on the song “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door,” replacing the word “heaven” with “Kevin.”

7 Les Incompetents

In a memorable scene, when Kevin tells his older sister Linnie he doesn’t know what to pack in his suitcase, she tells him that he is what the French call “Les incompetents,” brushing up on the Romance language for their upcoming trip to Paris.

In the movie, Kevin is confused, as he has no idea what that means. This meme shows what would happen if this movie took place in modern times. Kevin, an eight-year-old at the time, would likely have access to a device like a tablet, or the family would most likely have a smart speaker. So he’d simply have asked Siri, Alexa, or Google to translate for him, then storm off in anger or retaliate.

6 Lost Luggage

Funny enough, this line is actually delivered in the second film, Home Alone 2, when the parents meet with the local police to advise that they have lost their son for a second time, this time at the airport.

To think the parents would joke about losing their son is terrible. However, you can consider that in such a situation, parents might be so hysterical that they would make such inappropriate jokes. And knowing it’s just a movie, it is kind of funny to think that the family has never lost luggage yet lost their son twice.

5 Pause the Movie

If you’ve ever watched Home Alone with kids, no matter what age or generation, you know that they typically have their eyes glued to the TV to see what Kevin will do next — even if they’ve already seen the movie 20 times.

This meme perfectly shows that. Dinner? No thanks. I want to watch Kevin scarf down an ice cream sundae, pizza, and TV dinners and think about what I might do in a similar situation should I ever get left at home.

4 They’re Up To Something

Culkin had a fabulous knack for doing so much with his facial expressions in the movie. A sly smile or raise of his eyebrows and you know a creative idea is brewing. So when any kid gives you a similar look, you know they’re up to something, and it probably isn’t good.

It’s likely something mischievous, though not as elaborate as Kevin’s set-ups and plans in the movie. Nonetheless, the juxtaposition between super cute face and misbehaving is something any parent can understand.

3 Getting Old

Home Alone 10 Memes That Are Too Hilarious

This meme hits you right in the jugular, and is actually several years old because today, it should actually read that Macaulay Culkin is older than Marv was. Yes, in 1990 when the movie was released, Daniel Stern was 33 years old. Today, Culkin is 39 years old.

While it’s no secret that the movie was released almost 30 years ago (!), seeing the face of one of the adult burglars beside Culkin’s, and letting the reality sink in that little Kevin is now six years older than Marv was at the time, is hilariously obscene.

2 Doesn’t Hold Up

Home Alone 10 Memes That Are Too Hilarious

This meme shows how the entire concept of Home Alone would not hold up in today’s world. In the film, after Kevin is accidentally left home and it isn’t realized until the family is already on the plane en route to Paris, the parents try to call but can’t get through because the phone lines are down in the area and no one is working or home because, well, it’s Christmas.

Back in 1990, no one really had cell phones, and in-flight WiFi was not a thing. Today, however, had a similar situation happened, the parents would have easily been able to connect with Kevin, or connect with someone who could go check on him, using a myriad of technological options.

1 Shoveling

This is a hilarious take on the Rick Ross song “Hustlin’” that contains the lyrics “Everyday I’m hustlin’,” or it could be a take on the LMFAO track “Everyday I’m Shufflin’.” In any case, the verb is replaced by “shovelin,’” referencing Kevin’s elderly neighbor Marley, who all the kids tell tall tales about.

Often seen outside shoveling, the older kids scare Kevin by telling him that Marley killed his family and is burying bodies when he’s outside. Of course it couldn’t be farther from the truth and Marley was a lovely man who ended up looking out for and ultimately saving Kevin.
