How Suicide Squad Kill The Justice Leagues Character Switching Works

Rocksteady Studios officially announced during the recent DC FanDome event that it is returning to the Arkham game universe with its upcoming game, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. The game will feature four characters from Task Force X who are given the mission to take out some of Earth’s greatest heroes after an alien invasion corrupts the Justice League and turns them against humanity.

Rocksteady previously released a series of impressive Batman games, ending with Batman: Arkham Knight. Rocksteady has confirmed that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is a continuation of the Arkham series, unlike the other game announced at DC FanDome, Gotham Knights, which is in its own universe. In Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, players will have the option to play as one of four villains: Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, King Shark, and Deadshot. In this action-adventure shooter, players will have the option to play either solo, or with up-to-four-player co-op.

Even with co-op allowed, Rocksteady emphasized during the DC FanDome event that they want players to be able to play Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League however they like. That means that players will not be locked into a particular character at any point during the game. In single-player mode, a player will have control of their chosen character, while the other three characters are controlled by bots. But if the player suddenly decides they’d rather be playing Harley Quinn instead of King Shark, they can easily swap over to the other character. It will never be mandatory to play a specific character.

How Will Multiplayer Work in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League?

Likewise, Rocksteady said that players can switch between single-player and multi-player mode at-will in the main campaign. Starting Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League solo won’t stop players from adding friends later, and vice-versa. This is welcome flexibility that allows players to not worry about ending up in a dead-end campaign if friends drop out of playing, and to get some backup if they reach a particularly tough section. It’s likely that even in co-op mode, players will be able to swap over to bot-controlled characters or swap characters between players, though this feature has not been confirmed.

Actual gameplay for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has not been revealed yet, as the game will not release until 2022. It remains to be seen how the different movesets for each character will work, but Rocksteady has promised each will have customizeable weapons and unique skills. It is promising, though, that Rocksteady is encouraging players to have freedom to choose the villain that suits their gameplay style, the scenario at hand, or simply their mood. Given that Task Force X’s targets include Superman, players of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will need all the flexibility and help they can get.
