Marvels Spy Venom Returns in Extreme Carnage

Flash Thompson once wore the Venom symbiote and used it in the service of the United States, and now he returns to action in Extreme Carnage: Alpha, in stores and on digital this July.

While Eddie Brock might be the most popular host of the Venom symbiote, there have been others, Peter Parker’s former high-school nemesis Flash Thompson among them. After losing his legs in combat, Flash bonded with a symbiote as part of an experiment. Known as “Agent Venom,” Flash would use the symbiote suit to carry out dangerous missions on behalf of the United States military. Flash would come into possession of the Anti-Venom symbiote and would eventually sacrifice his life; however, it was recently revealed during the King in Black that Flash Thompson’s consciousness still existed within the symbiote hive mind. After helping Eddie with his fight against Knull, Flash is able to return to life. Now, readers can see what is next for Flash Thompson and Earth’s symbiotes in Extreme Carnage: Alpha.

The book, written by Phillip Kennedy Johnson with art by Manuel Garcia, promises to set a new direction for Venom, Carnage and the rest of the symbiotes on Earth post-King in Black. In the wake of Knull’s attack, the planet now knows just how powerful and dangerous symbiotes can be, and they are being hunted. In addition to Carnage and Anti-Venom, the book will also feature Scream; the book also promises a “return to form” for Scream, Carnage and the rest of Earth’s symbiotes, making them deadlier than ever.

Information has been scant on what role Agent Venom and the rest will play in this story, but judging from what has been released, the symbiotes will now be on the run, hunted by those they have wronged. For many years, Venom, Carnage and the rest of the symbiotes have worked largely in the shadows, but after the King in Black’s invasion, the whole world knows about them and what they are capable of—and with a symbiote invasion fresh in everyone’s minds, now is the not a good time to be in possession of one. Not only is it possible that symbiotes will be hunted and exterminated, but also captured and experimented upon—something that has actually happened in Flash’s case.

The King in Black has set a new status quo for Carnage and the rest of the symbiotes, and Marvel begins exploring it and what it means for Flash Thompson in Extreme Carnage: Alpha.
