Mass Effect 1 Best Mission Order For Legendary Edition

As players progress through the trilogy of games featured in Mass Effect Legendary Edition, they should be aware of the heavy impact mission order can have on the series. While players are allowed to complete assignments in any order, each game has an optimal order of events that allows Shepard to maximize time spent with their companions and keep things progressing smoothly. This is the case for Mass Effect 1 as well as its sequels.

If players don’t utilize the correct order for missions in Mass Effect 2, it can have drastic consequences such as resulting in the death of various Normandy crew members. Other impacts aren’t as severe – players will have more time to spend with crewmates they pick up earlier in the games compared to characters they meet later on. While this is primarily a concern in ME2, which focuses on Shepard building up a team to travel to the Collector base at the end of the game, characters can be recruited at various intervals in Mass Effect 1 as well.

Ashley and Kaidan can be recruited as early as the very first mission of ME1, while in the colony of Eden Prime. Garrus, Wrex and Tali can subsequently be picked up upon Shepard’s first trip to the Citadel. Players have the option to leave many of these characters behind, although characters who are not recruited in ME1 have the potential to still appear in later games in the trilogy. Garrus and Tali, for example, can both be recruited in ME2 and ME3.

Mass Effect 1’s Best Mission Order

Liara’s dig site should be the first area players choose to stop at in Mass Effect 1. Liara is a potential crewmate and romance option in both ME1 and ME3, and she plays a significant role in a Mass Effect 2 DLC. Given the inclusion of almost every DLC in Mass Effect Legendary Edition, this makes her particularly relevant in the remaster, and players should ensure to pick her up as early as possible. Liara’s mother is also an adversary on the planet Noveria, so it’s a good idea to bring her along then. Feros and Noveria can be completed in either order after that, though players may have a more difficult time in Noveria’s boss battle and might want to save it for later.

Virmire should be saved for last, and players shouldn’t travel there until after they’ve completed both Feros and Noveria (though the planet is available to travel to much earlier on). Multiple crewmates have the potential to be lost on Virmire – Wrex can be killed in Mass Effect 1 if players haven’t leveled their charm or intimidate skills high enough by the time they reach Virmire. Shepard will also have to choose between leaving either Kaidan or Ashley behind, meaning that players who go to Virmire early on in the game will have less time to spend with these characters. The order of missions in Mass Effect 1 is one of many decisions that can change how players experience the game.
