MCU: 10 Polyamorous Fan Fiction Ships We Wish Were Real

With so many great characters, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is well suited to polyamorous shipping. Here are some of its most amazing poly ships.

Of all the fandoms out there, especially for big franchises, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is one of the most suited to polyamorous shipping. There are so many different characters in the universe that interact and have varying kinds of relationships with one another, and there are also many couples that would have made sense but never got together.

As far back as the first Avengers movie, and even before, there have been some pretty popular ships that involve more than two people. These relationships come in all configurations and all levels of platonic and romantic, and they are a great way for different stories to be told instead of the heterosexual, monogamous relationship which is the only canon kind of romance in the MCU. Keep in mind that there are so many characters and ship options that your favorite might not make the list, but that doesn’t mean it’s not great too.

10 Phil Coulson/Clint Barton/Natasha Romanoff

Sometimes known as Strike Team Delta, this OT3 was really popular back in the earlier days of the fandom.

While Clint and Natasha never even have a romantic relationship in the movies, many people wanted them together, and while it might not make a ton of logical sense, the fandom latched onto the idea that Coulson would be a good match for both of them, thus creating this delightful triad.

9 Tony Stark/Pepper Potts/James “Rhodey” Rhodes

Many of the most popular polyamorous ships come out of an already established pairing. While Tony and Pepper are together in canon, many people see the relationship between Tony and Rhodey as a bit flirty at times, and he is also Tony’s closest friend.

Pepper and Rhodey could bond over having to deal with Tony all the time, and their relationship is sometimes romantic as well and other times more of a triangle situation with Tony at the center.

8 Wanda Maximoff/Pepper Potts/Natasha Romanoff

While ships that feature only women are sadly underrepresented across many fandoms, including Marvel, there are some polyamorous ships that are popular in fandom or have the potential to become more popular.

This triad is a great one as all of these women would interact with each other through work, and they also would be able to bond over their shared struggles as well as complement one another with their unique personalities.

7 Thor/Valkyrie/Bruce Banner

The great thing about fan fiction and art is that there is so much more room for varying gender identities and sexual orientations. Valkryie is one of the only characters who have a nearly confirmed queer sexuality, but in the realm of fandom, things are much more open.

Valkyrie and Thor make a great pair as they are friends with a bit of a teasing relationship, and Thor and Bruce have a very endearing friendship, too. So, the three of them together make a lot of sense.

6 Okoye/Nakia/Ayo

Black Panther is easily one of the best MCU films on many levels, including representation. And, there was almost even a moment of LGBTQ+ rep that unfortunately got cut. In the lost scene, Okoye and Ayo flirt with one another.

So, while Okoye is in a relationship with W’Kabi in the movies, these three would make for a beautiful queer female triad. Of course, Okoye could also be seeing W’Kabi as well. But, these three tough, unique, gorgeous women would know how to communicate well in a polyamorous situation.

5 Peter Parker/MJ/Ned Leeds

While these three are still rather young, this triad could involve differing levels of romantic and platonic connections. Peter Parker and MJ are a well-loved couple with comic book roots, and fans love the relationship between Ned and Peter, too.

So, whether they were all dating or not, the idea of them all being close is very endearing, and maybe they could even become friends, or more, with another genius in the MCU, Shuri.

4 T’Challa/Nakia/M’Baku

Of all the romances in the MCU, the relationship between T’Challa and Nakia feels like one of the most realistic despite only being featured in one movie. Both of these characters have individual stories outside of their romance, which makes them feel like a great relationship and pair. But, many people also saw an exciting rivalry to friendship dynamic between T’Challa and M’Baku.

T’Challa is also a character who needs to be seen even more in transformative fandom works, as well as many of the other Black Panther ships, so this is a worthy dynamic for fans to consider.

3 Steve Rogers/Bucky Barnes/Sam Wilson/Natasha Romanoff

This badass and adorable OT4 is known often as the Cap Quartet. It makes a lot of sense to imagine these four being very close in different ways with some or all of the characters being romantic with one another.

They are all friends who have helped each other out at various times, and they clearly have a lot of love and loyalty to one another. It’s no wonder this is a popular grouping even when these four are just viewed as platonic or with Steve and Bucky as the main ship.

2 Valkyrie/Carol Danvers/Maria Rambeu

Many fans, and even the actress themselves, really support the idea of a relationship between Valkryie and Captain Marvel. And, since Valkrie is supposed to finally be shown as bisexual in Thor: Love and Thunder, fans are really rooting for them.

However, there’s also a very strong subtext that suggests Carol and Maria were more than just close friends. They practically raise Monica together. So, while the timelines might not add up, fan fiction is a place for all three of these women to find happiness.

1 Many combos of Steve Rogers/Sam Wilson/Bucky Barnes/T’Challa/Tony Stark/Rhodey

Of all the polyamorous ships in the fandom, configurations that contain three or more of these characters are the most common overall. Tony/Steve/Bucky became popular after Captain America: Civil War as a way to resolve a major fandom ship war, alongside Sam/Bucky/Steve, which is another incredibly beloved triad. Different couples such as Tony/Rhodey, Tony/Steve, Bucky/T’Challa, Bucky/Steve, Bucky/Sam, and more also arose, but wouldn’t all of these men truly be better together?

There are many options here for all kinds of dynamics, and, of course, this is an excellent way to resolve the rift between Team Cap and Team Iron Man.
