Microsoft CEO Says Company is Focused on Gaming

Microsoft has been working diligently to ensure that the Xbox Series X reaches its audience’s standards for a next-generation console. The company has already released a new Xbox Seris X update to improve the user interface, adding dynamic themes and allowing its users to pre-load Game Pass games onto the console.

During an annual shareholders meeting for Microsoft, multiple executives commented on the company’s strategy for reaching the 3 billion gamers in the world, and how it sets itself apart from PlayStation. Arguments made by Microsoft execs centered around Microsoft’s efforts towards console accessibility and financial results for the current year.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella went into further detail about how successful the newest console launch for this year was, and how it has doubled the amount of content for the company. Nadella references Microsoft’s planned acquisition of ZeniMax Media, Bethesda Softworks’ parent company, as proof of its efforts to better the content of the console. Nadella also details how the company has made more of an effort to build its gaming community. With the creation of Microsoft’s Game Pass, gamers are able to play the best type of content wherever they want with whoever they want on the cloud. Nadella concludes his statement by saying “We are absolutely very, very much focused on gaming, and ensuring that all the 3 billion gamers around the world get the best content, best community, and the best cloud services to power their gaming experiences going forward.”

When asked about the overall financial results of the fiscal year, Microsoft CFO Amy Hood mentioned that the company had reached over 11 billion dollars in revenue from gaming alone. Hood also describes how the integration of the Game Pass has reached record levels of interaction with the consumer base and drastically improved monetization for the Xbox systems. Hood concludes by again mentioning that the ZeniMax Media acquisition is scheduled to close in the second half of this fiscal year and will greatly improve first-party content on the platform.

With this news, it looks like Microsoft is putting up a good fight this year. Xbox Series X has beaten Xbox One in sales in some parts of the world, so the company can only go up from here. It will be interesting to see what Sony does to compete with Microsoft’s recent choices. Hopefully, the outcome of this competition only means better products and games for players of either console to enjoy.

As the next stage of the console wars takes place, Microsoft has big plans in regards to how it plans to outshine its competitors. Microsoft has acquired Smash.gg in an effort to capitalize on the eSports market, so the company is definitely taking bigger steps in expanding its reach within the gaming industry
