Activision Blizzard released Call of Duty: Modern Warfare back in 2019, but the game has recently been impacted by Call of Duty: Warzone’s latest update. Due to some technical issues, several fans are reporting that they’re completely unable to access Modern Warfare from the game select screen.

Call of Duty: Warzone was recently updated to change over from the Verdansk ’84 map to the Pacific Caldera map. This update included several changes to the game beyond simply converting the map over, however, with new weapons, perks, and more added to the rotation. Due to the massive update, many Call of Duty: Modern Warfare fans are reporting that they’re unable to play the 2019 Call of Duty game at all.

Call of Duty fans trying to play Modern Warfare today may have been met with the data pack requirement before they can access the game. Several players who have uninstalled and re-installed each pack have also noted that they are still unable to access Modern Warfare after the extended process. This problem presents itself most notably in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare multiplayer, but the campaign is also inaccessible for fans trying to play through it while they wait for a fix.

It’s currently unclear why Call of Duty: Modern Warfare isn’t accessible as neither Infinity Ward nor Activision Blizzard has released a statement regarding the issue. Since the recent Call of Duty: Warzone update, a significant portion of the Modern Warfare community has reported that it can’t play the game. The update also negatively affected Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, with Treyarch already investigating weapon progression bugs caused by the recent changes.

Call of Duty: Vanguard and Warzone are both experiencing their own problems with the recent update, making nearly every Call of Duty affected in some way. Both games are seeing improper experience and weapon progression, audio problems, while Vanguard has its own bugs such as a skin that makes players invisible. Considering all of the recent Call of Duty titles are connected to Warzone in some way, it may take more than a quick update to fix these issues presented by the recent patch and return Modern Warfare to the game selection menu.

It isn’t rare for Activision Blizzard to reduce its support for one Call of Duty when the next title releases, but Modern Warfare has received a lot of attention throughout Black Ops Cold War’s lifespan. It looks like the release of Vanguard and the addition of the Caldera map to Warzone has taken this trend to new levels by making Modern Warfare inaccessible to tons of fans still playing it. Although Call of Duty: Vanguard is the latest title in the franchise, many gamers from around the world continue to play Modern Warfare and some are already frustrated by this issue affecting the 2019 Call of Duty title.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available right now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
