Nickelodeon Characters AllStar Brawl Definitely Wont Include (& Why)

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl’s reveal trailer surprised many fans of the network’s classic cartoons, but while the trailer showed off a wide variety of characters, as with Super Smash Bros., not all characters in the roster are likely to appear. Whether for legal reasons or simply because one game can’t have everything, a few particular Nicktoon characters are unlikely to join the Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl roster.

The announcement trailer for Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl’s confirmed 14 characters. These fighters span the full breadth of Nickelodeon’s 30-year history, ranging from the original Nicktoons from the early 1990s – Rugrats (Reptar) and The Ren & Stimpy Show (Powdered Toast Man) – to more recent hits like The Loud House (Lincoln and Lucy Loud). Notably, there are at least three representatives from SpongeBob SquarePants (SpongeBob, Patrick, and Sandy) and two from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Michelangelo and Leonardo).

Of course, 14 characters can’t encompass the entirety of Nick’s library, especially when half of them come from just three shows. The Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl box art hints at a few others, including Aang and Korra from the Avatar franchise, and CatDog. Still, there are some notable omissions so far, like anyone from Rocko’s Modern Life. Some of these may be announced later, but the following characters are the least likely additions.

Characters Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl Won’t Include: Anyone From Doug

Doug was one of the three original Nicktoons, along with Ren & Stimpy and Rugrats. However, Nickelodeon stalled on renewing Doug in 1996 due to its large production budget, according to the LA Times, and the show was bought by Disney in a multimillion-dollar deal. Nickelodeon retained the rights to Doug’s first four seasons, but Disney’s purchase included the Doug trademark and all rights to future merchandising.

This acquisition almost certainly means Nickelodeon couldn’t use Doug’s titular characters in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl. No Doug character appeared in 2020’s Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2: Grand Prix, which so far has a comparable character roster to All-Star Brawl’s.

Characters Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl Won’t Include: Cosmo & Wanda

Nickelodeon Characters AllStar Brawl Definitely Wont Include (& Why)

The recently-announced live-action Fairly OddParents reboot coming to Paramount+ would be a good incentive to put Cosmo and Wanda in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, but the last Fairly OddParents representation in a hybrid Nickelodeon party game was in 2008. The Fairly OddParents debuted in 2001, to great popularity but the channel has a strange history of snubbing it.

As reported by Polygon, The Fairly OddParents has been cancelled five times in its history. Although, if Fairly OddParents were featured in the game, Timmy or Vicki may honestly be the optimal representative – Cosmo and Wanda might be able to cheat a little too easily.

Characters Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl Won’t Include: Henry & June

Nickelodeon Characters AllStar Brawl Definitely Wont Include (& Why)

Henry and June were the hosts of KaBlam!, one of the more underrated Nickelodeon shows. KaBlam! was delightfully weird, as the half-hour variety show would walk viewers through segments like the “chuckimation” superheroes of “Action League Now!,” and the claymation “Prometheus and Bob,” where an alien and a caveman hung out. Henry and June were always there to guide viewers through the strangest of occurrences. KaBlam! produced intro shorts for Good Burger and Digimon: The Movie, but it’s never appeared in a Nickelodeon video game.

Characters Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl Won’t Include: Face

Nickelodeon Characters AllStar Brawl Definitely Wont Include (& Why)

It presently doesn’t seem like any fighters in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl will be from Nick Jr. And if a Nick Jr. character were to make it into the game, it would be Dora the Explorer. The chance that Face (potentially the deepest of deep cuts) could make it into the game is minuscule, even before one considers how a rectangular face could fight with a nonexistent body. Face was Nick Jr.’s mascot from 1994 to 2004. He would show up in bumpers to announce what was coming up next or illustrate how to make music with your mouth. Face was certainly creepy, but for those lives he accompanied through adolescence, he was at least a beloved sort of creepy.

Characters Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl Won’t Include: Jimmy Neutron

Nickelodeon Characters AllStar Brawl Definitely Wont Include (& Why)

Jimmy Neutron started out as a film. Following that, Jimmy Neutron became a TV show, which was then followed up by its own spin-off show. Nickelodeon promoted Jimmy Neutron quite a bit, and there are even multiple standalone Jimmy Neutron games. But, after 2010, Jimmy Neutron pretty much vanished, leaving less residual buzz than other classic Nicktoons.

Characters Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl Won’t Include: Snap

ChalkZone was an underrated mid-2000s Nicktoon. In ChalkZone, a boy named Rudy finds access to a realm where anything that anyone has ever drawn with chalk still exists – and that description alone would make for an excellent stage in a Super Smash Bros.-style game. Snap serves as the main character from the ChalkZone, and while there was a dedicated ChalkZone video game in 2003, there has been nothing new since.

It’s already been made apparent by Super Smash Bros. DLC that it’s impossible to fit every desirable fighter into a game – and Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl will undoubtedly have far fewer than Smash Ultimate’s 8oish fighters. But Nickelodeon’s possible attitude toward this release can be guessed at by similar games, like Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2, as well as the network’s history with some of its shows, giving at least a general sense of what to expect upon the game’s autumn 2021 release. All that said, a playable Zuko would be lovely.
