Percy Jackson is making its way to Disney+, with the original author Rick Riordan having a strong presence in the creative processes of the show. This means that the young adult novels are likely to get a genuinely accurate adaptation.
This means that many of the famous monsters that the books have become famous for will be making an appearance on the small screen in all their glory. While some of the creatures from Percy Jackson did get adapted into the film, this series will give fans a truer glimpse at what Riordan imaged when he wrote about these characters for the first time.
10 Medusa
Medusa did appear in the original movie, although a weak reflection of the monstrous creature she was described as in the books. The creature is one of Greek mythology’s best known villains.
The character is one of the earliest monsters that Percy Jackson meets on his adventures and is an important learning moment for the young hero, as he tries to trick Medusa into turning herself into stone.
9 Karkinos
The Karkinos can easily be described as a giant crab that Percy has had to battle. Being the son of Poseidon means that many aquatic creatures can target him.
The Karkinos is one of those monsters, who Percy beat with a bit of ingenious thinking and by making the crab slip up. It will be interesting to see this hero go up against such a big and terrifying animal.
8 Scythian Dracaena
Having served Kronos, one of the main Titans in the series and a key antagonist to Percy, the Scythian Dracaena are not to be messed with. They are incredibly dangerous female warriors.
These creatures have serpent bodies, but human heads, become a cross between a person and a reptile. These fantasy beasts are not only horrifying in their looks, but are especially cruel and vicious.
7 Minotaur
The Minotaur is another popular creature throughout cinema that has found its origin in Greek mythology. A fantasy world of this nature really wouldn’t be complete without a labyrinth and a Minotaur.
This is one of the most accurate depictions of the creature and it would be great to see him adapted properly. He made an appearance in the original film, but the Minotaur has an important role to play in all of Percy’s journey.
6 Geryon
Geryon is one of the many giants that Percy comes across. However, unlike many of the other monsters on this list, the character could also be considered to be a bit closer to a god than a normal beast.
He’s actually very intelligent and despite his multiple bodies, looks vaguely human. He’s ready to stab anyone in the back at any moment, in order to make a bit of a profit.
5 Dragon
Dragons have an important role to play in this young adult series. They have appeared a number of times as protectors and allies, as well as enemies on some occasions.
Most notably, there’s a mechanical dragon in the sequel series that serves as a great ally to the team. For the story to really shine like it should, these fire breathing beasts are an important part of the universe.
4 Manticore
The Manticore is one of the nastiest monsters that has ever faced off against Percy. The creature is modeled somewhat like a sphinx, with a human face on a lion body.
The tail of the Manticore, however, is similar to that of a scorpion, meaning it also possesses a deadly stinger. It’s one of the most dangerous fights in all of the books, because of the nature of the monster and one briefly appears in the sequel film.
3 Chimera
A Chimera almost takes the Manticore’s design one step further and would be really fun to see on screen. It has the body of a goat, the head of a lion and the tail of a serpent.
The strange creature is just as dangerous and is one of the many monsters that Percy has to escape from in the first book. What’s more, the animal can actually breathe fire!
2 Harpy
Harpies hold different roles throughout the books, as some of them work at Camp Half-Blood, while others have joined the Kronos cause and are extremely dangerous.
A harpy by the name of Ella plays a huge role in the Heroes of Olympus books later on, meaning that having harpies inhabit this world will be a huge benefit to the series long term.
1 Sea Serpent
A Sea Serpent is exactly what it sounds like, a giant snake that can live in the sea. These creatures vary in their danger level, with some species being far more lethal than others.
Much like Hogwarts, Camp Half-Blood sometimes deals with invading magical threats, such as these giant serpents in their lake. The serpents also caused trouble when Percy was navigating the Sea of Monsters.
