Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl early copies are out in the wild, leading to leaks and datamining efforts that discovered basically nothing new in the remakes. However, it’s now been discovered that there will indeed be some substantial new content added to Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, with this content coming to the games through a day one update.

This day one update for Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl enables communication features for things like the Grand Underground, Super Contest Shows, and the Union Room, essentially enabling online multiplayer. It will also trigger the Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl Mystery Gift feature. However, the most exciting thing about the day one update is that it will add the brand new Ramanas Park facility to the games.

Ramanas Park will be available to Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl players after they become the Pokemon League Champion. Upon visiting Ramanas Park, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl players will be able to explore and find slates that trigger encounters with legendary Pokemon. Some of these legendary Pokemon will be exclusive to Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and some will only be obtainable in Shining Pearl.

Basically, those playing Pokemon Brilliant Diamond can catch Johto region legendary Pokemon, whereas those playing Shining Pearl will be able to catch Kanto region legendary Pokemon, plus the Johto region’s Lugia. Rayquaza has also been confirmed for Ramanas Park, but it’s unclear if he will be exclusive to either game or if players will be able to catch him regardless of which version they pick up.

In the meantime, there will also be mythical Pokemon in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl that players can add to their collection. By connecting Pokemon Brilliant Diamond or Shining Pearl to one of the Pokemon Let’s Go games, players will get the mythical Pokemon Mew. If they connect Pokemon Sword or Shield to Brilliant Diamond or Shining Pearl, they will get Jirachi instead. The original US trailer incorrectly had them flipflopped, so anyone that saw that version of the trailer will need to keep that in mind.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl’s day one update will be important for those who want to catch legendary Pokemon that aren’t native to the Sinnoh region, and it won’t be the last update released for the games. Future updates are planned that will add even more features to the games, so fans have those to look forward to as well.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl launch on November 19, exlcusively for the Nintendo Switch.
